Yet, Dame and Hart have played 0 minutes together. Seems like a rationale thing to do. Yep, no holes whatsoever. Because CJ and Dame didn't work, Dame and Simons won't, and because Dame and Wes "did", Dame and Hart will. This place...
Portland is going to sign him for way more than he’s worth and tie up a lot of money they could use on other players.
Dame-Hart Dame-Ant Ant-Hart Does it really matter which one starts next to Dame? We are going to see all three of those backcourt scenarios during each game IMO. We saw the Ant-Hart combo for a few games and it worked well. Why wouldn't the Dame-Hart combo work too?
Because Simons is going to start. Simons has a higher ceiling than Hart does. It's not rocket appliances
13 games. He's played 13 fucking games as a blazer. He's not going to start ahead of Simons (unless Simons demands a trade). This is just wasted bandwidth
I don’t disagree with anything you just said. I was just stating that higher ceiling, or even better player in some cases, doesn’t mean better fit
Nor does 13 games mean he's a better fit. Blazer fans are weird in that they glorify small sample sizes all the time.
I didn’t say Hart WAS a better fit. All I said was higher ceiling doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a better fit
I always go back to what does it matter who starts, if the people involved are fine? There's plenty of minutes for a 3 guard rotation, especially considering Hart will undoubtedly play some minutes at SF. But if we're going by what's been said, Cronin basically alluded to Ant starting (as much as he could with him being a free agent) and Billups believes Ant can be a good defender. Both said they think it's different than the Dame/CJ pairing.
I think there are probably some valid reasons to worry about Dame/Simons being too close a mirror to Dame/CJ but, Simons is a different player than CJ, and as of yet hasn't shown the dribble-heavy iso game CJ had. Ant just seems faster with the ball than CJ and Dame/CJ never had a 3rd guard like Hart, or a coach like Billups. I've pointed to this before, but in 2017-18 Portland had the 8th best defense in the league, and that's with Dame/CJ. That kind of back court doesn't have to be part of a shitty defense. It just takes a balanced roster and better schemes
