I've been a Laker fan since I started watching the NBA. Magic Johnson was the main reason.

I've been a Laker fan since I started watching hoops (1993), and I also became a Clipper fan a year later...I like to support the home teams [IMG] My pops has been a laker fan since he immigrated here, so technically I'm a 2nd generation fan...I swear man, everytime Kobe or Shaq commit a turnover, I get lectured on how Magic and Kareem never turned the ball over etc etc....[IMG]

Since the 98-99 lock out season. I did watch the bulls in the Jordan era, because my dad was from Chicago and loved basketball though. I really got into basketball when I moved back to America, I immediately became a huge Laker fan. I've also been a Clipper fan for just as long. If you're thinking "he hasn't been a fan for long and he's a band wagon fan" or what not, I still do consider myself one of the biggest Laker fans. I would have loved to watch more basketball games, but it seemed like all they showed in Japan were those Bulls games my dad used to watch.

You want to know what it takes to be considered a real fan? Heres waht it takes...First off, you cannot have more than two favorite teams. How can you favor two teams? I mean there is always a possibility wehre they can meet in the finals, then who would u choose? Any team that you play against is your enemy and you do not want them to win so why should u have more than one team to rout for? Secondly, the typical bandwagoners who jump on when the teams riding on cloud 9 but then run away like chumps when they get knocked off from the playoffs only to come back later on when the teams going on a tear. They shouldn't even be considered fans at all. Thirdly, you should not dare welcome other players that have been your rivals in the past or the present PERIOD. Perfect example was when people were HAPPY to have acquired KARL AND GP. I mean seriously do u know not remember 96-97 and 97-98 season? I went through hell when we lost to Utah again and again to that punk Malone. That man plays so dirty throwing elbows all over the place and always sets illegal screens. He even complained about Magic coming back because of his HIV. He complained about Kobe waving off a pick that he set during one all-star game which then limited Kobe's minutes after that remark. I personally thought he was overrated because he would have never avged that many pts if Stockton wasn't there. As for GP, as hardcore kobe fan, anyone who attacked kobe i had enmity towards them. Back when he was a Sonic, he once jawed at Kobe on center court at the end of the game. I mean...GP would've been tolerable to me, but Karl would've been the last person i would have ever expect or wanted to be wearing a Lakers jersey. I wonder what ever happened to those days when the rivalries were so bad, that the players just hated eachother even till this day. I'm positive that if Isaiah had never won a championship, and wanted to join the Bulls, chi town peeps would not have allowed that. Jordan I'm sure would have never wanted that because the rivalries stayed with them till this day and he probably still remembers when they kept getting knocked off by the Bad Boys. See, I consider myself to be one of the most hardcore REAL Laker fan because I never abandoned my team during tough times. I even cried(anyone who knows me personally knows that I never cry) when they got knocked off in the playoffs last year. I even fractured my wrist punching a brick wall because I was so upset. Every Laker game I went to, I arrived 3 hours before the game and stayed 2 hours after the game just to catch a glimpse of them when they came in and out of the parking lot. Once, I even stayed until 12 just to watch Kobe drive out of the lot even though I parked 6 blocks away(the parking lot was cheap) and was risking my safety walking in the mean streets of downtown LA haha. I have not missed a Laker game in six years and I try to record every game just so I could watch whenever I get bored or hope that Kobe would do an incredible move so I could try and emulate it. Every year, when tickets are about to be sold the next day I would wake up at 3-4 in the morning; drive to my nearest ticketmaster to be the first in line to purchase tickets. That is what i think takes to be a real fan.

^ Gotta put it in paragraphs man. It looked good from the beginning, but when there's tons and tons of words to look at, it can be very straining on the eyes.

Yeah i agree with most of you what about if you did start liking the lakers during their 3straightwin period? Do you have to be a bandwagoner then? Can't it just be coincidence and you started supporting them just then not just because they were winning? Or a basic question: How do you start liking a team, supporting a team? Isnt it just cause you like the way they'Re playing and stuff? So I think its normal if you became a lakers fan during their 3straight period (some of my friends are anyways [IMG] )
And I mean, if you re like 10 something and you dont know dudes that played 91 92 seasons [IMG] would you consider them not a lakers fan? we werent able to count then you dont seriously demand someone at the age of 3 to know this guy on television remember his name and which position he played and stuff [IMG]

sorry to quote it [IMG] people but yeah, i agree with that enemy point, when Roy Makaay went to Bayern (soccer) I was just furious and i cant stand him even now that he has scored so many points. I can understand that. But the first point ...it sounds right but i dont see whats wrong in favouring some team more and some other less, if for example Rockets would face Lakers in the playoffs, i would definitely chose Lakers, and against all the others it wouldnt be a question for me. Id ont have a problem with that and ill support each of the teams as much as i can. You want them to win, you want it bad - thats what makes a fan IMO

I dont know if im a real Lakersfan. I''ll try to explain why i love the Lakers so much. My dad is a lakers fan as i can remember and with him i started to watch the Lakers. Now he has lost interest in the game but i still adore to see the Lakers play. Cause i live in Holland i dont see alot of live games of the Lakers and dont know alot of quistions about the Lakers but love to see that Purple and Gold. Its not just Shaq and Kobe but the whole team.

I've been a Laker fan since the spring of 2000. Barely knew they existed before then. If LA starts sucking again in the next few years I'll be back to not giving a damn about them--in fact, if they don't win this year I'll be all about the Kings and T-Wolves baby!...should get some photos and videos ready just in case I need to make the signature and avatar switch.

Actually he wins for being a REAL LAKER fan, most Laker fans have the same attitude. When they win they come around, when they aren't they go out and cheer for whoevers "IN."
