I had some pictures from Vietnam but I lost the film when we moved from our home in S.W. Portland in the early 70s. Wish I took better care of them. I do have a Basic Training graduation photo but it's in a picture frame and not easily transported to here.

You must have lived in an easier neighborhood. Ask me about where I lived.

I think it's strange that you keep track of the number of pizzas that you were able to finish in one sitting.

I volunteered for the MPs. Instead, they sent me to an electronics school.

I joined the Navy back in 2001, but I have a weird condition with the meniscus in both knees so they ended up kicking me out during bootcamp. I actually got home from basic a few days before 9/11.

The most I have done is help train up the Oregon National Guard before they deployed to Iraq.

I did not serve and probably would not have been accepted had I tried (moral turpitude and body odor) but all my high school buddies did, so I'm service-adjacent.

I had terrible meniscus in one knee and bad meniscus in the other knee and the Army still said I could either join the Army or go to prison. They had to take people like me so guys like Trump wouldn't have to go.

Edit: I misspoke. They gave me the option of the Army or the Marines. In fact, a Marine sergeant came out and selected about seven of us randomly and they got drafted into the Marines. They selected those guys very near me so I was almost a Marine. Not much difference in our training in those days.

Don't we all do that? I guess I'm strange. Well, that shouldn't be a big surprise to anyone.

Humvee was my first licensed vehicle. I was driving 5-tons around Okinawa before I had a US driver’s license

Didn't have them when I was in the Army.
Also, nearly every kid I knew had a learner's permit when they turned 15. I was late when I got mine at 16. Had my driver's license at 17. You must have been at least 17 when you went in the Navy, weren't you?
By the way, I tried to join the Air Force, the Navy, the reserves, the National Guard, even the Coast Guard but they were all full up. So I got to be a ground pounder with an M14, same rifle as the Marines used.
