If you chose a domestic partnership, you would have *every* single right that a married person in California would have. It would just be called a domestic partnership, not a "marriage". There are not rights that are being lost here, just the term "marriage".

I can proclaim myself a deity, it still doesn't make it legally correct.

Exactly...but the problem is that the law just said that homosexuals can't do that.

...and why don't you think that? That "term" that you hold so sacred to your heart? What has influenced your definition? Was it your upbringing? Was it your church? Was it your fear?

He didn't mean being gay was my choice. He meant if I chose to get a "domestic partnership."

This debate doesn't really matter because we'll win eventually. That's what happens. Progress. One day, most assuredly in my lifetime, gays will be allowed to marry. If a black man can win the presidency in this country, the gays can win the right to marry. The passing of Prop 8 is just a bump in the road.

I think so too. I think in a couple of decades we'll look back on people who discriminated against gays as the same types of people who discriminated against blacks. It's just so stupid.

Yes. This matter will be just as significant and impactful to the struggles of black americans in the 1950s.

Says the guy who doesn't want to see homosexuals get equal rights. Obviously this isn't a big issue to you.

again with the words in my mouth. All rights are the same. Its just a simple issue of nomenclature of the legal structure.

But if you want to diminish the struggles of the african americans in the 50s and 60s who were *ACTUALLY* denied rights, so be it.

...so your stance is simply defined by the legal structure? I find that hard to believe [answer the questions I ask in my previous post as to why the term "marriage" is not about love:wub:, but strictly about man and women? And how that is not a "right" for all? What has influenced your definition? Was it your upbringing? Was it your church? Was it your fear? Why do you care so much?]
