I believe you. I never was a cop, never wanted to be. I did stand my share of Shore Patrol in some rough spots way back, but I never wanted to even use the baton with just the pardoner an I.
If we (usually the first and only time you met) didn't think we could handle a situation, we called in back up. I have no doubt I could have disabled damn near anyone with the baton but the problem is, too many would never recover. So the back up team was an orderly plan, batons could be applied judiciously to disable, if the fool was wanting to take on six. The Navy didn't want us to be eliminating Sailors and Marines, so the plan was good and it worked.

Would it work in the hood? I think so, with layered back up teams ranging from muscle teams to heavy weapons teams. Probably would be good to have all black pairs in the hood for a few years to get things started. You were right about the cops that drove up to the 12 year old with the toy gun, way too close. Bull horn range would have been about right to see if you could get a rational response from the guy(kid unknown) and determine what back up is needed if any. Probably none needed in this case, but no-doubt at all, the procedure was totally wrong.

I don't think the cops should be put on trial, but I am sure the Chief should be replaced.

First of all it's 93%. However you're blind bias will make you bloviate 99.99%. You keep asking this dumb ass question. And I keep telling you while you keep ignoring the fact that those blacks that are murdering are going to prison.

You're talking shit about statistics but certainly didn't post any about the "plenty of cops that have gone to jail". That statement is disingenuous at best.

With regard to me being disingenuous, the LaQuan McDonald case is the first time an officer has been charged for such a case in Chicago. Most often they are not charged.

Some of y'all act like you HATE unions but the silence is deafening when it comes to police unions rules about officer shootings.

A white South Carolina police officer has been charged with murder after a video of shooting a black man running away from him became public - months after previous cases of police killings saw no charges against the officer. So when have police faced charges?

In 2013, Russell Rios, 19, fled a Wal-mart in Conroe, Texas, after allegedly stealing about $50 (£32) in goods from the store.

An officer, Sgt Jason Blackwelder, responded and chased Rios on foot to a wooded area. Blackwelder left the woods, Rios did not.

Blackwelder later said in his report during a struggle Rios had choked him to the point of almost losing consciousness. Blackwelder fired his gun and killed Rios, arguing it was self-defence.

But prosecutors said evidence from the scene contradicted that account, including the fact that Rios had been shot in the back of the head.

Blackwelder was charged by a grand jury for manslaughter and making false statements. He was convicted in a jury trial.

It is one example of the rare instances where police are arrested or charged for violent incidents related to their police work.

    ...

The FBI does record "justifiable homicides" by police officers. There were 461 such homicides in 2013, but by definition, this doesn't include the number of police charged with a crime for on-duty actions.

And reporting these statistics to the FBI is voluntary. In addition, even police agencies who report their overall crime numbers are not required to submit additional data on homicides, justified or not.

Mr Stinson's own research found 41 police officers were charged with murder or manslaughter between 2005 and 2011. In the same time period, the FBI recorded several thousand justifiable homicides.

Guess that justifies my use of the word plenty. 41 is quite a lot in 6 year span.

That doesn't justify it at all. 41 out of the thousands of "justifiable" homicides ain't shit. WTF are you talking about?

What part of justifiable are you misunderstanding ? Or do you just assume that every single one of those is a guilty cop shooting someone? You're so blinded right now all you see is red.

41 is a lot IMO in 6 years. So yes 41 JUSTIFIES my use of the word "plenty". So your BS statement about cops getting away with no consequences is moot.

Nope. Every killing by a cop is "justified" by the reporting rule used. 41 is a ridiculously small %.

    upload_2015-12-31_19-4-6.png

461 per year. 41 cops prosecuted over 7 year period.

The straw man arguments that you and sinobas push are amazing.

They said when that frightened BITCH COWARD Frashour shot unarmed Aaron Campbell in his BACK that it was justified. They said Eric Garner being choked to death was justified... you don't believe everything that the government tells you do you? Hell fucking no.

But somehow you do when it comes to police killing people??

The question I still have, and I haven't seen a definitive answer to....

Is it really a race thing only? Or an issue with police overstepping? A combo of both?

I agree there's an issue. I agree racism still is prevalent in this country. Frighteningly so. But I keep hearing people blaming police reactions solely on racism. Both exist. Some incidents are correlated.

The cops are harassing people in the black neighborhoods far more than is necessary. NY City finally was forced to end its stop and frisk program, where they stopped and searched black folks without reason or a warrant. When you do these things to people and shoot them when they're unarmed, hands raised, or in the back, it is obviously making a tense situation much worse.

I get that. I don't dispute it. It's wrong. It's all wrong. Read my posts. I'm not being argumentative and I've made my stance clear. The fact people are arguing with it makes me question their motive(s). Or their reading comprehension.

The thing is... There are two big separate issues here. Police overreactions and racism. They are connected, yes, but you don't solve both at once - let's be real.

I think maybe we should listen to, and respect, those affected.

I am not making this into an argument with you. You asked a question and I answered as best I can.

    That's just it.

    We are ALL affected.

You said all I needed to know.

We aren't equally affected. It's really obvious that people in Watts have similar experience to those in Ferguson or Baltimore. I've never been stopped and frisked, have you?

I didn't say "equally". Nice work, though.

And, for the record, I've had 4-5 extremely uncomfortable police encounters in my lifetime. Never been shot. Never been arrested. Been cuffed twice, though. Nothing ever came of it. 3 times had follow up calls where police were going to come talk to me and explain the situation and how it was mishandled. Still waiting for the police to show up with an explanation.

Grew up in all-white suburbs. Still had an unhealthy fear of the po-po based on real-life instances. By the way, two of the cops I encountered in my situations had serious allegations against them after the fact, and at least of them lost their jobs (for shooting a white man in a situation where the officer overreacted).

A handful of experiences vs daily occurrences.

You and I walk down the street and don't worry about being hassled by the cops for no good reason.

    Live in my white burbs.

    Quite honestly, I do.

But still.... I haven't seen a real answer to my question.
