Why Do Many Reasonable People Doubt Science?

Not only can they coexist..they do coexist

 

Hi Mags. In the sense that your personal religious belief is rather non-traditional and seems to be quite malleable I'd agree this statement might apply to you. You tend to morph to believe whatever fits science as best you as understand it and is also compatible with your personal moral intuitions, with disregard for any form of literalism.

As for more traditional religious beliefs they can coexist with science in in the minds of people who compartmentalize the two, but in the external world where science is continually marginalizing religion their ultimate compatibility is suspect. I was quite surprised to see this point recently made by a FNC regular (Krauthammer).

I fully understand and mostly agree with your point on how science literally disproving specific stories of the bible, but I can't agree that these stories are as literal as many believe. What I do understand if that anyone being religious should embrace and welcome science because it could teach us the true nature of God, seeing the wonders of creation and power of the universe.

If, in fact, the universe was created by God, then it's pretty marvelous on the vast perfection!

 

Or if, in fact, the universe IS God

 

and it's still being created..a work in progress

 

There it is! The exact problem. It isn't science that causes the dispute, it is the use of the word science to push and agenda. Worse yet, training tools with just enough information to push the agenda and call them scientists.

 

Well, one reason would be to learn, but if that is not your goal, I don't really give a shit.
