I guess you don't see the 6-11 servings of SUGAR at the bottom of the pyramid. The next row up is sugar, too.

I made nice big red arrows for you. Maybe you're used to crayon.

You claiming you got too much sugar from eating vegetables? And jack-booted government thugs came to your house and forced you to eat those vegetables? Is that your story?

The fat is between your ears.

    Chemistry.

Carbohydrate is sugar. It makes no difference if it is raw sugar or from fruit or grains. The molecules are identical.

A cup of orange juice is about as good for you as a can of Coca Cola.

In fairness, the government does have a huge influence on the food children are permitted to eat during school hours. Not all of it, obviously, but significant.

I worked at one school where the lunch program included more fruit and vegetables. The kids ate what they wanted and usually trashed the fruit and vegetables.

A big part of healthy eating habits begins at home with the parents.

Sure. But except for the very poor, school lunches aren't the majority of a kid's diet.

That may or may not be actually true, but so what? The government isn't forcing you to drink either one.

Unfortunately parents are too fucking stupid nowadays to give a shit about what they are feeding their offspring. Go look at the dental epidemic in the South.

The government has limited our choices to foods high in sugars and low in fat. It is true. The incidence of obesity has tripled since the government made recommendations about diet. It also funds what gets grown and approved by the USDA.

Few people have the desire to study nutrition to figure out how bad the government sponsored foods are. People didn't have to before the government got involved.

The cost is to our collective health and to our health care costs.

I have a significant amount of weight gain from some medication I take that will basically keeps me alive. A doctor recently nonchalantly told me I was obese and that I should change my meds....

"I lost most of my eye sight and was in bed for several weeks from severe ear infections the last time you guys tried to switch medications. My eyes are permanently damaged to direct sunlight because of that shit. I get exercise several times a week and other than appearance... my metabolism is fine."

He told me that I should try a different dose OF THE SAME MEDICATION. And that I should still try. And I've heard much worse from other assholes in white coats.

So you know what.... Fuck doctors and their bedside manner!

Doctors aren't trained in nutrition. Just handing out pills.

Yeah. Stuff like that just happens. There are times you're going to be healthy. And there's times you're not. You just have to learn to get through it. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

The solution to shitty government food is to grow your own.
But the real problem is people don't have the time to do that/know how to do it anymore.
People stopping learning how to can/farm because it's easier and less time consuming to just go to McDonalds or buy box food at winco/walmart.

I personally don't go to the grocery store for much anymore.
I get almost everything I need to sustain myself from my own garden/family garden & a few farms who grass feed, not processed feed.

It's ironic that they sell food since their employees are often times too poor to afford lunch.
