    Mostly government controlled/promoted changes, but some originating from industry also.

    Crop subsidies, end of equal access to physical education/sports in public schools replaced by pay-to-play, changes in government dietary recommendations, the onset of video games...

    It's true for people of all ages.

    The problem really is people eating too many calories. ~375/day more than in 1970. Almost all of those are sugar. Not super sized fast food meals. Sugar.

    Yep, soda pop is a biggie.

    But the government encouraged people to eat a high carbohydrate diet, and still does.
