Steve Kerr is one of the greatest NBA players of all time.

One of the greatest coaches of all time.

Champion coach, champion player. Understands the game all around.

Without googling I honestly don’t even know if he’s been inducted. Has he? He will be…
Wait…. Why is Steve Kerr one of the greatest NBA players of all time?

For the record, I’d rather listen to Mark Jackson than Hubie at this point. But I feel like Jackson is more replaceable.

Player/Coach

Because his success speaks for itself. As a Player you really couldn’t have asked for much more out of his roll contributing to the Bulls championships.

Maybe some would say that he’s been carried by the Players, but that’s the grand mystery right?

He was a role player. Role players don’t belong in the hall. He’s a hell of a coach though.

Because Dame carried him.
This is possibly a more accurate statement than you may have intended. Even though teams haven't seen it yet because of Dame's injury, I'm sure that there have to be executives around the league that feel that Dame carrying Stotts's dead weight held him back... I know I do. Obviously Olshey's team building has impeded Dame's ascent more than Stotts's noncoaching and even Stotts being around so long could be tied back into Olshey. That being said, I don't think many executives around the league think that Terry propelled Dame to higher places but rather held him back by not coming up with solutions for the blitzes and by not having a more active offense and defense around him that would have taken pressure off of him, raising his assist totals and increasing his efficiency.

You don’t think he will be inducted? I’d bet you on that… No more than $100, but the wise man would realize the odds that you pay me if you don’t think he does Vs the odds I pay you if he doesn’t.

IDK dude maybe in the year 2344 Kerr will be inducted.

Going into a crucial season for us and our future this year. Let’s hope what we have with a healthy Dame can get HCA.

Last season can have somewhat of a pass… IDK about this year.

As a coach? Sure.

As a player? Not a chance in hell.

To me his greatest coaching attribute is showing confidence in his players and coaches to their strengths instead of making players fit a certain mold. Seems like Billups will be same type of coach.

He was a great shooter and underrated defender who contributed to winning. But he was not “one of the greatest NBA players of all time,” lol. They just named top 76. He wasn’t on it.

I'm not going to spend the time to listen. Anything of note/interest shared?

Nothing too crazy. The questions weren't that deep. IMO these was the most noteworthy items:

  • He said when he was coming up with offensive sets, the two players in his career that he worried about on the defensive end were KG and Sheed because "they could really screw up our sets". Noted how much length they had and how smart they were.
  • He said he really valued the stats on specific lineups. Not 5 man, but 2 and 3 man combos.
  • He was sensitive to roster construction and over-stepping a GMs role. He had no input on the NBA draft because he felt the scouting department was better suited. He sometimes got asked his opinion when they were down to 1-2 guys.
  • The host asked if he would want to come back and spend 30 minutes talking about defensive philosophies and Stotts responded "after my last two years in Portland, I'm not sure if you want me." Everyone laughed.

Funny--just glancing at the list and seeing Curry at #3, I think "yeah, that makes sense"...then keep skimming and seeing Curry right below Nash, and I have to look back up at the top and realize that it's Seth at #3, 9 spots above his more-successful brother. Again, not really a surprise that both are near the top; it just took me a moment to realize which Curry I skimmed over initially.

Reports talked about the Jazz having interest, but they just signed Will Hardy to a 5 year deal.

Magic recently hired a former Mavericks assistant coach as well.

Why isn’t Stotts coaching somewhere?

Say what you want about how far we got with him. Stotts is not a horrible coach… Would you rather have McMillan? As far as coaching FA goes, he’s one of the top coaches available, right?

It's early, but looks the both the Jazz and the Blazers made the right choices.

I did the same thing.

Hold up. Look at that list. With the exception of Nash and Curry, that’s like a who’s who of role players.
He's two full percentage points ahead of the the players of this era. Who all work and focus on the 3 ball a LOT more than in Kerr's era. How many of those other players have 5 championship rings?

Kerr is different than nearly all of the players on that list. In a good way.
