Disney files lawsuit against Ron DeSantis, alleging 'targeted campaign of government retaliation' "Disney regrets that it has come to this," the complaint continued. "But having exhausted efforts to seek a resolution, the Company is left with no choice but to file this lawsuit to protect its cast members, guests, and local development partners from a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials." "A company has a right to freedom of speech just like individuals do," Iger said at the time, describing DeSantis' policies as "anti-business" and "anti-Florida." "Disney finds itself in this regrettable position because it expressed a viewpoint the Governor and his allies did not like," Wednesday's complaint reads. "Disney wishes that things could have been resolved a different way. But Disney also knows that it is fortunate to have the resources to take a stand against the State’s retaliation—a stand smaller businesses and individuals might not be able to take when the State comes after them for expressing their own views. In America, the government cannot punish you for speaking your mind." https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/d...aign-of-government-retaliation-163236043.html
Got my first gender-affirming surgery consult scheduled... a nine-month wait and another nine months before the surgery can happen, which hopefully gets my surgery done before January 2025 when DeSantis winning would mean I have to flee the country.
Best to you, @Everything Beagle. Sounds like you have to jump through a lot of hoops. DeSantis is not going to be president.
The hoops are really mild compared to 2015 when I came out. But even so there's a tremendous backlog because there's so few people doing the work.
Dwyane Wade announced he and his family are leaving Florida. Wade and Gabrielle Union have a trans daughter and he has become an ally. The relentless hate directed against trans people by DeSantis and Republican legislature have made them unsafe in the free state of Florida. Free to hate. They would be welcome in California.
DeSantis is not Florida. I have friends there who can't wait for that Ahole to eat shit, and he will STOMP
One of my best friends here in Tallahassee is moving to Washington as they are a trans woman and no longer feel safe here. Another close friend wants to transition but doesn't want to be put on a list. The chilling effect is real. And they have every reason to fear the fascists in charge. My girlfriend and I are still figuring things out, but will most likely be leaving when they are done with school.
This is really important to remember: the south is not their leaders. Lots of people in the south, yes even the rural folk, are fine with queer people and a few rednecks are even queer themselves. We can’t paint a populous with their leader’s brush.
I truly don't get why some get hung up on other people's personal preferences. I've only a few people in my inner circle (mostly family & longtime friends), but pretty much anyone is a welcomed addition in the greater circle of people I interact with in my day to day. Maybe it's an eldest brother thing, but I've never been able to stand bullies though. STOMP
Well, we certainly shouldn't tar all of them. But somebody must have voted for those 'leaders'. barfo
Thanks for that observation...and I'm out in the country in south-central Georgia so I'm definitely "rural"...in fact, I'm so rural that I'm 12 miles from the nearest convenience store... ...which I suppose because of its distance from me, makes it an "inconvenience store".
I have a soft spot for the country; I spent my childhood in Klamath Falls and Lakeview, and I would go back if I could. I miss the way the dirt there smells lol
Yeah, I moved out here 20 years ago from Albany, Ga. It's so placid ot here on my red dirt road and at night time the only sounds come from crickets, frogs, and whippoorwills. And I fee sorry for people who live in big cities that have a hard time viewing the stars at night when there's no moon or city lights to wash them out. Whenever I do have to venture back to Albany to see my Son and Grand children, as soon as I leave its city limits, I feel the need to take a shower as soon as I get back home.
I had a friend that was stationed at Kingsley air base back in the 60's, went to visit him a few times and met super cool gal I almost married. We were both 18. Crusing downtown KF's could get pretty rowdy.
Just saw an ad on espn for desantis for President, and he’s not even announced. Are we really going to get political ads this early
