Calderon is one of the few starting PGs in the league that make Steve Blake look like a lock-down defender. Calderon's defense is HORRIBLE. He is an upgrade offensively over Blake, but unless he fell into our lab for next to nothing, no thanks (and I don't think that would happen as it would require Brian Colangelo to admit he screwed up by keeping Calderon over TJ Ford). Calderon's a good shooter but he's a safety first point guard who doesn't push the ball well. His defense is poor and his assist numbers are a bit inflated.
It's a confusing situation for KP because he has to balance so many issues. The perfect PG isn't available. I'd say out of all the names thrown around, Conley would be the best bet due to his age, and friendship with Oden. However, Memphis is now high on Conley, and they won't be giving him up for spare parts. The guys we have the best shot at are Miller, Bibby and Calderon. And all 3 of them are upgrades over Blake, and I definitely think we should try to get one of them this offseason. Some say Jose had a bad year, but he still dished out 9 assists and shot 50% overall from the field, and 98% FROM THE FOUL LINE. Hell, give me a guy who doesn't choke at the FT line at the end of a game! *ahem*.
I actually would not mind it - because it means we fix the biggest hole we have in the line-up - backup PG. If Sessions proves himself - he will get that role sooner or later. We win just fine with Blake as our PG - our problem is that our backup PG has a horrible win%.
