Well when bench guys who never play come in they often are out there auditioning for the next contract, or to show the coach they should get more minutes. Yeah the 1’s and most of the 2’s played loke garbage, they’d probably say that too, but I think in reality what we can take from this is all about how bad the 1st 7-9 players played and very little about Simons and Trent and those guys. Other than Trent really can shoot, and simons lolks very comfortable with the ball, but we knew that.
I so wish that Stotts would start the unit that closed out last game just to show everyone what would really happen.
I'm not saying to tank or to throw a game or anything like that. I just want people to see how crazy it is to say that garbage time in a blow out has any kind of meaning.
I was just giving you crap. I get what you’re saying. The idea that the third string is gonna win them games is... Im having a hard time figuring out a nice way to say how I feel about that idea.
I really am getting old. I can remember when players getting benched for lack of hustle was considered routine.
You ever see a teams best players and star players get benched cause they played a bad game or two in November?
Yes, because early in the season was when winning habits were established. A coach has to establish himself from the start of the season or the players won't follow him at the end of the season.
Im not trying to be condescending or disrespectful so please dont take it that way, for the record only 33 years old. I dont remember a guy like Dame or even CJ being benched because the coach was trying to prove a point. At least in basketball, do you have some examples? Moe’s been benched, Nurkic at times (in 4th quarters) players like that. Im not old enough to remember 80’s and older basketball.
I'm not saying that players don't deserve a benching sometimes. I'm more just commenting to the statement that our "3rd string" outperformed our 1st string.
Those young guys was playing against Towns Rose Wiggins Saric and forgot the 5th guy they had out there for proximity the last 5:44 secs. No I don't think they could hold with the whole game but about confidence for those young guys. If they see there self competing against other teams best players that give them confidence in there development
Well the starters for Minn knew they had the game won, had already played for long stretches of the game. Their was undoubtedly a let down by them too.
Not in the current NBA - hence my reference to being an old fart. Most coaches have little real clout anymore and discipline is usually kept behind closed doors. You may have seen the stories about how GSW considered keeping Green's penalty "private." Accountability is sacrificed to protect fragile egos. I'll get off my soapbox now.
The guy on 620 in the mornings yesterday said something I agreed with in regards to Draymond. If something like that is in public, it deserves a public punishment, and apology. If its in private it should stay that way. I agree with you about fragile egos. Pop is the only coach in the NBA I think has enough cache he could get away with benching a “star” type player for a game without much reprocussion. However given the weird Kahwi stuff maybe he doesnt? Not sure.
Your right they probably did have a let down in that portion of the game. But it still give the young guys confidence to see the ball go through the net.
Definitely good to get them out there against real NBs opponents in an NBA game and see some good things.
