Tony is cocky. Watch him when he knocks down a shot. However, he doesn't have a signature killer crossover, but he can dribble as good as any other PG in the league. And yea, he doesnt need a flashy game, he plays smart and just wants a W.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Henacy:</div><div class="quote_post">What happen last year to Parker in the Finals last year, when Kidd got focused? I do believe he found himself on the bench with Speedy Claxton getting his minutes. </div>What was that? His second year in the league? He was going against a veteran PG in Jason Kidd. Didn't his team still win the finals?

You have to look at how they contribute to their team and who is most valuable to their team.

Parker's matured so much since last year, it's great to see. He's more of a true point guard, and still scores pretty well. He's definitely one of the quickest in the league. By the time he's Duncan's age, he'll be as good as Kidd, if he keeps progressing as he has-- which isn't unlikely. Right now, he isn't a star because, as was said, he's not flashy. He is a little cocky, but it's subsided, and it's more of a happy-I-made-that-shot-or-pass thing.
He's a star in France, though, and I guess home's where it counts most.

Since when? His rookie season? Parker is playing like the best PG in the league and he is doing this in the playoffs! Double team him and he will still produce.</div>

Thats why I asked, when does he ever get double team. How do you know
he will produce against double teams, if he never gets doubled?

And why does everyone want to focus on his matchup with GP, but then when I bring up kidd everybody talks about how young he is?

And Like I said winning is always the most important thing but when people start trying to rank players at a postion, you have to consider how they matchup with the best at their position.

If it was only about victories when ranking players then Parker is easily # 1 because he plays along side the best player on the planet,so he always going to have the victory edge over every point guard just about. But you cant just go by victories, you have to take in the fact of how he has played against the best players at his position.

And yes you do have to take in the fact of how valuble Parker is to the Spurs. And how much he contributes? But can you honestly say he is more valuble to his team then any of the other point guards are to their team? No, so the value thing would be a wash imo. So you have to go back to matchups.

Tony is a good PG, and he is slightly underatted, but why do people keep talking about him winning a championship at age 22. Common we all know Duncan is on that team, not to take anything away from Parker but you;rem aking it seem like he won the championships himself or something.
He's a good PG but not a top 5 one.

    Jason Kidd
    Stephon Marbury
    Baron Davis
    Sam Cassell
    Steve Nash
    Gary Payton
    Mike Bibby
    Andre Miller
    Chauncey Billups
    Tony Parker/Jason Williams/Steve Francis/Kirk Hinrich
Gilbert Arenas, Dwyane Wade, Jamaal Tinsley, Eric Snow, Jeff McInnis, Jason Terry, Damon Stoudamire, TJ Ford.

A guy like Kirk Hinrich could surpass him in PG ability in the future also, and Arenas and Wade are also the same age as him.

This is only his third season and he led his team to an NBA championship in his second season. Maybe we will see a kidd/parker match up again, but I highly doubt the Nets will get past the Pistons, let alone the Pacers.

You cannot go on matchups and stats because they are not guarding each other the whole game and there are a lot of different factors that come into play. So you match up thing would be a wash, imo.

If you keep talking about how good he is because of his championship, then you are talking about victories imo. Victories come along with championships.

Granted most players in the NBA dont guard each other for an entire game. But imo you still have to take into account their matchup because most of the night they usually are matchup against each other.

    Actually you can what?
Say that he contributes more to his team then the other top pgs do their team. If that is what you are saying, then who?

I cant think of any so thats why I said that it is a wash.

Yea, but why really use it with Parker either? is basically the point Iam trying to make. If you put alot of point guards in Parkers place last year, they walk away with a title too imo.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Depends on the game</div>.

Yea, it does depend on the game, but Parker was matched up against Marbury in the playoffs last year. And Kidd in the finals & those are the games Iam talking about.

Not in this situation is my point.

You say you can judge, tell me who do you think(out of the top Point Guards) Parker contributes more to the success of the Spurs, then that particular Point Guard contributes to his team?

I totally agree, Parker is like a mini version of Michael Jordan in all aspects

And Marbury is only superior in his scoring ability, in all other aspects Parker is superior. Point guards are not mean to score! they have to command! im real tired shooting first point guards, they ruining the game

maybe in world consideration and publicity impact, also in rings and all, but i dont see a player right now with a better playing style... Sorry i dont really like Kobe's way, maybe TMac, but Parker been shorter means a lot of things.

If you refering to Jordan's ability to make the important shots you're right.

out of the players in the NBA,regardless of size,Kobe Bryant is indeed the player that is closest to Michael.

Kobe's way to play is bit orthopedic, maybe he's better shooter than Parker, I just love to see Parker with Kobe's body and been his team first shooting option.

Besides San Antonio being a small market, from the standpoint of an average fan, the Spurs are without a doubt one of the most boring championship teams in three decades. They don't have all the flash and glamour of the Lakers, they're a real blue collar team that goes there everyday and gets the job done. They don't worry about highlight dunks or being in the Sportscenter top 10 list, all they care about is the win column and that's something which is pretty rare these days in the NBA with only a minority of teams that have players concerened about winning rather than personal stats. Tony Parker and TD go together like bread and butter.

A little off topic, but remember a few weeks ago when Iverson was crying about how franchise players, multi-time allstars, etc. shouldn't be coming off the bench and he doesn't know of any that come off the bench? Well it was pretty funny because Tim Duncan actually came off the Spurs bench the next night because it was good for the TEAM. I'd love to see an eastern conference team win a championship.

Yea that mini Jordan thing is stretching it by milesssssss.......You do know that Parker is more of a scoring PG, Popovich has even said it himself many times.
How can you say Marbury is only superior in scoring ability, he's also a better passer, and he could put out a case as a better defender. Parker is more of a shooting PG than a passing one, don't get it confused.
