With Cho in place and Matthews hopefully official, what now?

Apparently, he's developed advanced computer modeling software to do player evaluation, which I assume he'll use to evaluate our current players.....

or he'll just look at their PER :)

Matchup coaches react to what others do, not dictate the matchups. They are reactors. The Avory Johnsons as opposed to the Don Nelsons. Nate put Batum out there in reaction to what Steve Nash was doing. Now if Nate was a coach that dictated, rather than reacted, he would have done something like going big in order to make Phoenix adjust. But he couldn't, because Batum had pretty much no experience as being a focal part of the offense. Slash? Yes. Catch and shoot? Yes. Main ball handler, post up opposing PG, etc? Never in the NBA before the playoffs last year. Fat chance of it happening in the playoffs under Nate.

Saying it is one thing, yes. Let's hope he actually believes in it.

Yep, when Batum came back from injury last year, he needed about 10 games just to get back in rhythm. Then there were only 27 or so games left in the season, and it's a little late in the year to start throwing wrinkles into the offense. So Batum never really had a chance to develop his offensive game last year.

Then the playoffs came around and Batum is basically playing with one shoulder. And he's trying to guard an elite point guard on the defensive end. And that's the time we should decide to start making him a key part of the offense?

I really don't think it was bad coaching that kept us from exploiting Nash. It was just tough circumstances.

That's cool, as long as Batum is being asked to do thing this offseason to change that.

How many titles did this guy win as an assistant GM? Did his computer models tell him that Presti should draft Kevin Durant over Al Horford?

Did Cho's trusty software tell him that Robert Swift was the pick over Al Jefferson and Josh Smith?

    I'm fascinated by his software!

No kidding. Thank God KP never made a draft mistake.

Thank you for you eloquent elucidation on the merits of computer-based vs. subjective modeling of nba draft candidates.

Probably not, but both Jefferson and Smith were getting low scores on the personality tests. Teams in the San Antonio mold downgrade those prospects significantly.

Batum admitted that the team wanted him to post up Nash but Batum wasn't comfortable doing so.
It was one of the things he was going to work on this off season.

You can blame Nate for a lot of things but he can't magically give a player a skill he doesn't posses on the fly.

    Thanks for the good news.

I don't blame Nate, then. I'm glad the problem is being addressed.

Indeed. I've tried to tell posters here this a bunch of times, but a few certain posters just love bashing Nate for any reason their minds can think of.

He never made 2 absolute bust lottery picks, though.

    Swift - 12th pick 2004
    Sene - 10th pick 2006

Plus, the Sonics/Thunder drafted both Carl Landry and Glen Davis in 2007, yet traded them away! Landry for Sasha Kaun, another big stiff, and Davis in the Ray Allen deal that netted Jeff Green, the only player still with the Thunder from taht deal.

One could make the argument that if Seattle had "lucked" into the #1 pick in 2007, Cho may be without a job at this point, given that organization's tendency to draft big in the lottery.

Cho never made two bust lottery picks either.

Do you want to touch it? I know a lot of people like Cho, but that's pretty extreme.

I'm pretty happy with this off season so far. Getting "Yes Man" Cho will help make the organization cohesive since that's what Allen likes....and we got Wesley (overpaid but had to to get him) and Babbit who should turn into a deadly (hopefully) shooter. Trade a couple of our assets for an elite PG and this season will be as successful as you could have hoped for...

Let's hope that Cho is a grower, and not a show-er!
