Link Cashman better find a way to bring him to the AL side of NY. Coupled with CC and Joba, Pettitte and Mussina to round out the rotation, and the Yankees will be back take the East back... -Petey
Who would the Yankees deal in return though? Peavy seems to be on a bit of decline the past two seasons and has problems staying healthy. What are his split stats away from Petco Park?
more than hughes more likely joba. btw petey are you advocating they add another 40 million in payroll for 2 pitchers? think that oughta make the playoffs? what a joke the yankees are. they have been trying to buy one for years now, when they were winning the ws, they had home grown talent, not a bunch of overpriced hired guns.
Yes. Jimmy Key, David Cone, David Wells... Jeff Nelson, Mike Stanton, John Wetteland... Tino Martinez, Paul O'Neill, Scott Brosius are not home grown. The Yankees were solid 1-25 on the rooster, and I think that is why they won. Not because it was home grown talent. -Petey
Peavy has a No Trade Clause, and from my understanding, he wants to stay in the NL anyways. I'd love him, but I'd rather go for CC. We don't have to actually give anything up to get him, just pay him a crap load.
Make up for Santana? You can't make any judgments on a trade that would help us our right now, that was not pulled off because of the future.
I wouldn't trade away too much for him....I'm tired of the yanks signing decling pitchers............I'm with Moo2k4....I'd rather go for CC for various reasons............
There was speculation Cashman didn't make the trade (for Santana) as he was scared of what Hughes could become. I don't think major market GMs should think that way. There are player types who are harder to get than others. Aces being one. Considering many don't see Hughes even as a number 2 type, can trade him for an 'Ace'. There are plenty of number 2 types available via free agency every year... very seldom does a true 'Ace' make it to free agency. Look at the Padres, they rather lock their 'Ace' up and recoup some value shipping him out. The Yankees have to do whatever they can to get Peavy, and to pair him with Joba at the bare min, if not also adding CC to the mix. Imagine a series where teams have to go against Peavy, CC and Joba at least once. -Petey
Past 10 seasons, able to name 5 productive players the Yankees have traded away that would have helped them last season? It's pretty tough. -Petey
It isn't so much trading away of talent, but the picking up of lack luster pitchers......I've had my eyes on C.C. all year....hopefully Cashman can get er done.................
Most of our terrible contracts are potentially gone (only Jete and A-Rod are left. Both make up for it with the revenue they bring in) after this year. CC/Peavy/Wang/Joba/Moose,Hughes sounds good to me. Hell, even without Peavy, that's a damn good rotation.
