To get a player you like as part of a package deal with a player you don't... so Blazer + 23rd Pick for Better Player...?
I was thinking that it would be kind of awesome if Philly gave us ALL FIVE of their second rounders for our first rounder. Then we could take: 35 and 37. Hernangomez/Milutinov/Jaiteh/Richaun Holmes 47. JP Tokoto/Cedi Osman/Josh Richardson/Norman Powell 58 and 60: Alan Williams/Treveon Graham/Dez Wells/Terran Petteway/Branden Dawson/"Speedy" Smith You've got to figure ONE of them would end up a useful player...
If we keep the pick, Jonathan Holmes is racing up my personal draftboard (if you know what I mean). Reminds me of Dante Cunningham, in a good way. Versatility is now the key and he's been played at the 3 and the 4.
Well just off the top of my head that stat is wrong because Klay Thompson was picked 11th in 2011 and he made the All-NBA 3rd team this year.
I am rethinking Looney if he falls that far. Could he grow into a Lamar Odom type player? He is not quick but he plays good defense and I think he can cover most 3's. At first glance he has tweener written all over him, but the game is changing and I wonder with his skills if he might be a good gamble at 23. Draft express has him at 23
One possible reason would be to keep as much cap space as possible to sign free agents. First round draft picks count against the cap at their scale contract amounts. Second rounders don't. The scale contract amount for the 23rd pick is about $1.1 mil, so by taking 2 2nd rounders instead of that pick, Olshey would have that much more to work with to acquire a free agent. Also, he'd get two cheap players to fill the end of the roster with instead of one. Given how much the starters will be making, that's a good thing as far as luxury tax implications go.
I could live with this scenario: http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i...ers_select_rondae_hollis-jefferson_in_be.html Actually I think I would be happy with any of the pac 12 options: Wright, RHJ, or Looney
It's very possible they have the offseason $$ mapped out very specifically. But dumping the 1st generates the 500k-ish roster charge, and I can't imagine they have it down to where that money is integral to our offseason moves. I could be wrong. Seems more likely, they aren't in love with the guys at 23, enough, to justify spot there versus 2 in the 2nd.
or the proposal was just that, a proposal. probably by philly. good chance it didn't lead to anything if it leaked to the media. especially with olshey.
So, assuming we keep Vonleh and the pick, we're almost assuredly going after a RHJ, Justin Anderson or some other SF since we now have a top pf prospect in place?
