If Portland were to keep the pick, not confident he falls to #7.

Schmitz and Givony put out a piece today on the four players with the best chance to have better careers than the presumed top 3

The four players: Ivey, Murray, Daniels, and Sharpe. They also specifically mentioned Portland as a fit for Murray and Daniels.

Murray is my choice, but if the Blazers can somehow acquire John Collins for a future 1st and the needed cap space the Hawks desire, i'd take Mathurin at 7. He has special written all over his game.

I think it would take #7 to acquire Collins

7 (plus the Milwaukee pick) to Detroit for Grant and #5 makes sense. Indiana needs a PF badly and Detroit does not. So I don't see a reason for Detroit not to do it unless Ivey falls to Detroit at 5. Then I can't see them risk moving down since Indiana could also use Ivey. And I think Ivey will fall to the 5th spot.

Who else could we trade up with? Sacramento is the only other option I see and that might cost us too much.

I get the feeling trading up might be the way we go, question is do you go after Houstons pick? Banchero would be a home run.

Comes across as very thoughtful, cerebral, and a student of the game. (Interview with new Asst. GM Mike Schmitz)

Do you think the #5 would net this highly touted Keegan Murray(even has a start type of name)?

If so I would do this. It would still leave us the Bledsoe contract and TPE to trade/fill out the roster.

    Dame/Simons
    Hart/Simons/Mclemore
    Murray//Watford/Ingles
    Grant/Winslow
    Nurk/??

Now that I lay it out, That doesn’t really impress me.
Still really thin overall in PF/Center.

Could we realistically fill that out with Bledsoe and the TPE?

Do any of the top 3 teams want to give up the chance for a talented young PF?

Hard to say, probably not unless they were getting back additional talent and/or picks? If Houston wanted Simons for their pg?

Can you even trade an RFA? Yes I know there are the sign and trade scenarios, but I can't see that happening in this case.

I think there's a really good chance he's available. The earliest he's going to be picked is Indiana but it seems Mathurin already has a promise and I'm doubtful it's anyone before Indiana.

He's older, which some would suggest he has less potential. And if Dyson Daniels is rising as everyone says he is, we're going to be left with someone very good.

"Personally, I've trended toward Keegan Murray as arguably the third best prospect in the draft. I'm not there yet, but I can see by draft night that being kind of my lean. When you talk about Sacramento and them like needing to compete now, and get a guy who can fit with these pieces, it's Keegan Murray. To a T. This guy scored 24 points a game having almost no plays called for him."
    - New Trail Blazer Assistant GM Mike Schmitz

I heard that too! But his usage is still among the leaders in college ball. Stats for the whole season dont really back up what Schmitz saw in that one game. But you can sorta see how his efficiency can translate with lower usage as well. there's no wasted dribbles or motion with his game.

I hope that is the case. My concern is, someone like Ivey (good player, but doesn't fill any need) or Sharpe (needs a LOT of development even with huge potential) are the ones that fall and Murray and Daniels end up going before #7. Then, even if one of those two falls to #7, will they keep the player, or trade it for a vet for Dame?

if ivey drops to us, you take him and don't think twice. there are 96 minutes available at guard. even if dame and Ant take up 64 of them, you can move Hart and let Jaden be the third guard off the bench. at #7 if he drops, he would be the epitome of BPA.

we would obviously be worse in the short term, but I put Ivey closer to a tier 1 player in this draft and a can't miss prospect. you still take him and figure out roster decisions after. i don't see the pressing need to move Dame immediately

I'd trade Simons if we got Ivey.

I don't think there's any way Ivey drops to 7. But if he does, you absolutely take him and let the situation play out. It's not a foregone conclusion that Dame and Ant is going to work anyways.

My guess is that Daniels or Murray will be there at 7. Maybe both.
