Maybe, but that’s what they have committed to. So drafting somebody like Duren that’s going to take a few years to develop in Dames prime years doesn’t make much sense to me.

Thats not the plan from what I understand.
Dame and the Organization want to re-engineer the team around Dame for the next 4/5 years.

Of course that's not what the plan is.... but that's what the plan SHOULD be.

You want something good. I want the chance at something great. No pain no gain. That's how the draft works.
You must surely see the irony in how we obtained Damian Lillard and your thought process.

there is no irony because at that time, Portland didn't have Dame...they had a 6'10 Robin

but tell me who it is that will be available at 7 that will be "great"....I guess I'm just not seeing that player in this draft. I mean, in a post a little earlier I listed 7-14 in the last 3 drafts. None of those 24 players are better than Collins. That's 3 years of the 'chance at greatness' right there

We don’t know who will drop to us. Sharp might be great or he might be a total bust. Nobody knows. Murray could be a really good player. There are a few guys that have a pretty high ceiling that might be there when we pick.

Their biggest weakness is on-ball defense as well. Only way to improve is to acquire defense at the forward spots.

Collins is a solid rim protector, but really bad on ball. It didn't work with RoCo defensively, and Collins wouldn't be any better. He doesn't have the footspeed to guard well on the perimeter.

And I thought we wanted the team to try something different other than CJ, Norm, and RoCo?

I don't believe his defense is nearly as bad as some are claiming. He has pretty consistently had a better defensive rating that his team. On average he's been +1.8 points better and he's not going to that being a bad defender

He's a worse on-ball defender than the latter two, and arguably CJ as well. He is not a good on-ball defender at all.

RPM? CJ's DRPM is a good 1.5 points better than Collins', so if that's what we're putting stock in...

You're talking about his overall defense, I'm talking about on-the-ball. You need multiple POA defenders in the NBA.

Just checked Bball-Index (Synergy-Based) has Collins as a B-grade rim protector and an F-Grade perimeter defender, for what it's worth.

Eason has yet to receive a green room invite. Man, the feedback on him must be terrible-- and he's worked out for like 11 teams.

It is not good. Great motor, hustle, athleticism.....but there are some major holes in other places.

Collins is really just a glorified, better version of Kyle Kuzma.

this is Daniels' coach from GLeague Ignite.

Not exactly an impartial observer, but some insight to be gained. it's interesting how he projects Dyson to be a "true PG" as his natural position. I know we all want to stick to the BPA tenet, but does this give any of his fans pause?

Still think taking him 7 would be an overdraft.

Personally, I'd prefer to pick up a pick later in the draft & select his teammate:

    Latest Givony opinions:
In his latest 2022 mock draft, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony (Insider link) still has Jabari Smith going to the Magic, Chet Holmgren to the Thunder, and Paolo Banchero to the Rockets.

Givony says the Magic continue to cast a wide net as they evaluate their options at No. 1, but rival executives “overwhelmingly” expect them to ultimately land on Smith. The Rockets, meanwhile, watched Banchero work out in Memphis and then brought him to Houston for an individual workout, according to Givony, who writes that the team seems “high on (his) talent, skill, and fit.”

While Givony’s newest mock doesn’t include a shake-up in the top three, there are some changes elsewhere in the lottery and further down in the first round. ESPN’s draft guru also shares a handful of draft-related tidbits. Here are some of the highlights:

    • According to Givony, Keegan Murray‘s chances of being the No. 4 pick may be gaining momentum, since Kings owner Vivek Ranadive and incoming head coach Mike Brown reportedly like him and Sacramento isn’t Jaden Ivey preferred landing spot. However, Givony notes that the Kings have been willing in past years to draft players they haven’t worked out — plus, the pick is considered to be available via trade if there’s a team that wants to move up to snag Ivey.
    • Although Shaedon Sharpe is viewed as a legitimate candidate to be selected at No. 5 by the Pistons, he didn’t separate himself in a recent 3-on-3 workout that also included Bennedict Mathurin and Dyson Daniels, Givony writes. ESPN’s new mock has Mathurin and Daniels going sixth and seventh overall, ahead of Sharpe at No. 8.
    • The Wizards‘ lottery pick (No. 10) is widely thought to be available in a deal that would send a “proven backcourt player” to D.C., per Givony.
    • The Thunder are reportedly looking to trade up from No. 12 to acquire another pick in the top half of the lottery, according to Givony, who says Ivey and Sharpe may be among Oklahoma City’s targets.
    • Rival teams don’t believe the Hornets will keep both the 13th and 15th overall picks. Givony has also heard from rival clubs that the Bulls don’t love their options at No. 18 and are open to trading that pick, possibly in a package with guard Coby White.
