At the end you count the picks involved in the Trent trade but don't include Trent as someone we have.
Trading Plumlee and a 2nd for Nurkic and a 1st - Good. Nurk is the Bosnian Beast. Trading up for Collins and drafting Swanigan - Good. Collins is going to be a stud. Trading Crabbe for Nicholson - Good. Bailing the team out of Crabbe's horrible, Paul Allen instigated, contract, & delaying Lux Tax. Trading Vonleh for nothing - Good. Delaying Lux Tax. Drafting Simons - Good. Got a lottery pick talent at the end of a draft. Trading 2 future 2nds Trent - Incomplete. Too soon to tell. Re-signing Nurk for 48M/4y - Awesome. 2nd or 3rd best player at $12M per year is a bargain. Trading Swanigan for Skal - Incomplete. Skal looked good in the last game of the season, but too soon to tell if that translates. Trading Stauskas/Baldwin/2 2nds for Hood - Good. Even if it's just for this past playoff run, we don't get to the WCF without Hood. Not sure why getting a year of Curry on the cheap isn't at least included as a good move. Probably doesn't do anything for the Blazers after this year, but he certainly helped in having the season that we did. Isn't it part of the GM's job to find short term solutions when needed? I think Hood and/or Kanter may be back next year and that's at least in part because Olshey brought them in for the playoff run and they got to learn about the team and it's culture. We heard the exit interviews and both want to be back. No way that they listen to a deal for the money the Blazers can offer if they hadn't first had the experience of this season and playing with the team.
Back in 2016 Olshey mentioned that in order to do big trades you had to have salary to match. He obviously isn't interested in trading Dame or CJ so he thought having players at those contracts would lead to him being able to wheel and deal. Unfortunately those contracts were all a massive overpay and led to no trade value. However, that could all change between now and the next trade deadline. If Olshey is able to pull off a trade using those contracts that brings in a difference maker then the last three years could still go from being his biggest blunder to something really positive. Now it remains to be seen if he can pull it off but I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the final results. If those contracts are still on the books after the trade deadline then we just wasted 4 years of Dame's career. Let's hope Neil can pull something off.
Yeah, I'd have included their short contributions as positives for Neil. I'm simply referring to his 2016 where he completely shit the bed.
The next year is the time that Olshey should've been evaluated for being worthy of an extension or not.
Well the good thing about coach and GM contracts is they don't count against the cap so if they fuck up they can still be fired.
Sorry but I'm really tired of hearing of this... Do we REALLY want this GARBAGE contract when we already KNOW what's gonna happen?? Age Year Base Salary 30 2019-20: $34,234,964 31 2020-21: $36,595,996 32 2021-22: $38,957,028 ******(player option)******
This was the first year he had played over 67 games in a season in 6 years. He was also injured in the playoffs and has played an average of 58.5 games over the last 6 years as well.
Exactly why I'm saying fuck that. Nope, I would rather be rid of Turner's contract sooner, than to trade it for Blake's more HORRIBLE one.
Blake Griffin with how physical he played it just seems like his body is breaking down and while his game has become better and less reliant on his athleticism, the miles he put on his body with how he played is going to come back to end his career short much like Gerald Wallace.
Hes played in over 72% of his games the last 5 years. Not great but not terrible. I'd take a 60 game season and a 72% chance of BG playing in the playoffs.
