Looks like Davis won't sign an extension with us

the first thing after not trading them would probably be to spend some time negotiating buyouts

people can correct me if I'm wrong about this but I think veteran minimum contracts signed during the season can be for a pro-rated amount based upon the amount of season left or for the maximum vet allowance for the entire year. The Knicks could save money with a buyout, and then save more when Matthews signs with the Lakers or another team. Meanwhile, Matthews could agree to a buyout but not actually lose any money...win-win?

Matthews and Jordan are buyout candidates...I wonder who else is in that situation? I wonder if the Cavs will waive Stauskas?

This is an amusing way to look at this. Unless the Pels accept the offer, at which point it will morph from amusing to depressing.

The Thunder wasn't on Paul George's list.

The Raptors weren't on Kawhi's list.

Wow, that would be insane to also give a 1st round pick as a minimum of a first pick should go to the Blazers.

That package for AD is pretty awful. I cannot believe that is the best they could get. All controlled by LA/Lebron and Rich Paul... Most of those guys if they played in any other market not LA would be considered bad players.

Doing some quick math the Lakers (if that alleged trade was the accepted offer) would have just over $87.7 million on the books next year for only 6 players (LeBron, AD, Solomon Hill, Wagner, Hart, and Bonga). There is no way they could add another max free agent if they take Hill.

What has he done to show he'll amount to anything better than CJ?

Every bought out player with an ending contract that is worth a Tinker's damn will go to Laker's for the league minimum.

I guess it depends on how many years they stretch him for. I could see them attaching Hart and/or Wagner to him to try and trade him away without having to stretch him but I don't know what teams would do that.

A 3 year stretch would be about $4.3 million, adding back in the roster hold they could probably save about $7 million but it would still be really tricky to add a max player with so few roster spots accounted for.

Honestly if I'm the Pelicans I just bench AD the rest of the year see how much we can lose, trade Mirotic and anyone else of note and look to move AD after the Free agency in July. That LA offers just sucks, if I were them I wouldn't be in a big hurry to take those offers. If Rich Paul / LBJ and the Lakers have scared off the rest of the league from making any serious offers, that should be more then a fine, because that literally ruins the integrity of their league... I know they won't do anything because it's LA and LBJ but the reported offers seriously just guarantee NO sucks for a while and basically gets nothing for a top 5 NBA talent, that seems stupid... Not just saying that because I want the Blazers to get him (I DO), but from every angle, I can't figure out why they would take that unless they believe those guys will be stars someday, and if they believe that they should probably get a new scouting department...

"Bench AD for the rest of the year"
    - I'm sure that'll go over well with a) the league b) the fan base c) anthony davis and d) ticket sales in an already poor market.

If they keep him, they'll almost certainly have to play him, which really prohibits them from losing consistently and will be a weird situation.

Also, Lonzo - Kuzma - Ingram - 2 Firsts and Cap relief - how is that terrible?
What do you think the "best" Celtics offer even is and do you think they'd offer the "best" package for 1 year of AD with the hopes they could "convince" him to say -- keeping in mind they would've probably traded a majority of their depth to acquire AD.

And obviously you're never going to get a fair return when someone publicly demands a trade. That's the whole point, the player utilizing leverage to get what they want.

They will probably flip Ball to Phoenix for Josh Jackson or their top 1 protected pick or something.

This trade will be concluded today I feel.
