Horrible coaching, aging roster with bad leadership... we need Pulisic to be the face of USA soccer.

Yeah Panama is bad. Well, in 2014 3 of 4 CONCACAF teams advanced to the knockout round.

I remember watching Saudi get thrashed 8-0 against Germany in 2002. I was in Australia during that cup. Everywhere I went in Sydney to watch the matches everyone was rooting* against the US team. The Australian press for whatever reason liked to bring up the US team and CONCACAF's 3 automatic spots when they talked about how the Socceroos kept fucking up their playoff matches against Iran and Uruguay.

The things I remember most about that World Cup are Senegal, and Ronaldinho's free kick.

CONCACAF's three automatic spots makes it way easier to qualify than OFC's 1/2 spot against the fourth placed CONMEBOL team. Australia's loss against Iran was completely our fuck-up, but the playoffs against quality South American opponents (Argentina with Maradona FFS!) once every four years, with no quality opposition in between; was brutal. I'm glad we got our of OFC, and into AFC. Personally I think OFC should be merged with AFC, and AFC split into West AFC, and East AFC. Australia played the most games in World Cup qualification history, and travelled the most distance (even before the extra games) in qualification history, to qualify for this World Cup.

Australia didn't play at the World Cup for 32 years, and our return in 2006 is one of the greatest moments in Australian sporting history. We've qualified for every one since.

Late goal by Argentina looks like it's gonna be just enough to send them on to the next round.

Our IT guy is streaming the world cup in the company cafeteria. When that moment aired, in a very mixed environment and is quite corporate, I thought he might turn it off. He didn't but one more gesture like that and we might lose the privilege. I, of course, was laughing my ass off haha.

Yep. Just played in his fourth World Cup. He was trying to be only the fifth player ever to score in four World Cups (Pele, Miroslav Klose, Uwe Seeler, and Cristiano Ronaldo). But with Austrtalia now knocked out, he'll miss out on that milestone.

He will go down as the greatest Socceroo ever. He's not our most talented, or skillful player ever (that would be Kewell or Viduka), but he's the one who performed for our country time, and time again. Always went up a level when playing for the national team, and saved our bacon many times over the years.

Wow--Sweden up 2-0 on Mexico in the second half, with Germany and South Korea scoreless. If Germany doesn't step it up in the next half hour, they're going home.

I thought Germany was capable of putting up two separate teams that could make a World Cup run....and they may not get out of their group? I believe they were the Vegas favorite as well. This would be a complete national embarrassment!

Mexico can suck it. What a choke job. CONCACAF sucks lol
