I hate superstar and Kobe calls. I've seen games where lakers get to the line like 3x as much as the opposing team, it gets ridiculous at times.

My main beef is weak touch fouls. When a guys pinkie touches another guy on a drive it'll end up as a foul. Let the men play basketball damnit!

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting unbeliever:</div><div class="quote_post">The worst thing of it is the inconsistancy. Players, coaches and fans really have no idea what to expect in any given game. Ticky-tack fouls or real basketball being played? Phantom calls? Makeup calls? Star treatment? Blah.</div>

    What are Phantom calls?

And I can agree with Anime's post. Especially about superstar calls. What pisses me off is that some stars get calls way more than other stars. Like AI, Kobe, Shaq, and KG get way more star calls then Pierce, Carter, Duncan, or T-Mac.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">The list is endless. My main problem with the officials is the inconsistency throughout a game. When you're a player you have to adjust to the way the game is being called. Some refs allow the game to be more physical, while others call ticky tack fouls. However, what's frustrating to watch is when the refs allow players to be physical one half, and then call the game tight in the second half. It ruins the flow of the game and confuses the players and fans watching.</div>

Shape shape shape......you should be the last to complain about officials. You can't breathe on your boy Kobe (especially in the last 5 minutes of a close game) without getting called for a foul. Kobe does initiate alot of contact, but he does get a ridiculous amount of pseudo and phantom calls....Most of anyone in the league.

No I think that goes to AI. The guy makes a living from the free throw line. Still one of the NBA greats imo.

Lets all face it. In EVERY sport the veterans and superstar players are going to get better treatment from the refs. The refs know that the league's income (and their's) is directly dependant on the superstar players doing well and being visable as winners. Imagine the league's cut of the profits on Jerseys alone. A rookie in any sports league knows he's got his work cut out for him to get calls.

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER a regular season game where Gary Payton was playing for Seattle and one ref gave him his second technical foul of the game--------------and then------------the other ref (senior offical) ran over from the other side of the court and called it off. The refs then talked about it for a sec when ref #1 realised that if he gave him his second tech he would be gone from the game. THEY ACTUALLY TOOK BACK A CALL TO KEEP THE SUPERSTAR IN THE GAME. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Carlos Arroyo was shoved by Alston into Yao Ming, in the closing minute, and there was either a no-call, or a foul on the Magic. I can't remember specifically.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting igotask8board:</div><div class="quote_post">Just post the worstest call by an NBA Official that you have witnessed.

As a Rockets fan I am going to have to say the crappiest call that I have ever seen was the Playoff Game 5 Rockets @ Dallas game where they called a foul in the final seconds of a game on Scott Padgett. It wasn't because Scott Padgett didn't even touch the guy, or because we told the officials right before the play that we weren't going to foul...but because they missed a call right before where Michael Finley had both feet out of bounds and knocked the ball out of T-Macs hands. The official was right their but didn't seem to even notice that Finley was 5 feet behind the backboard!

So mines is more of a call noncall I guess.[IMG]</div>

i definetly agree.. i watched the game.. this guy was standing out of bounds and knocked the ball out of tmac's hands.. and stole it.. even the commentators were surprised refs didnt call it.. And also the refs cheated in the whole series.. They called way many fouls on yao... and thats when the talk bout yao getting cheated by the refs started.. And now they r starting to call fouls when yao gets hit on shots.

    Spurs

I think the worst call i seen, i dont remeber who the spurs were playing against but tim had the ball under the basket and was pused in the back. The ball went out of bounds and the ref called TRAVELING, not out of bounds or push in the back Traveling. I couldnt believe wat i saw.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting KICKSDADDY613:</div><div class="quote_post">I'll acknowledge that if McDonalds' drive through screws up my order, I'm gonna get pissed. It's your job. Do it right. If I don't do my job, I get ripped from my boss. So, there for, do your job right, and there won't be a problem.</div>
I'm sure you'll think it's fine when you get ripped by your boss.... but how about if your co-workers start yelling in your ear, the janitor comes in and tells you how to do your job, or a good group of customers come in and begin a chant of how much you suck?

Being a ref definitely stinks.... it's probably one of the more thankless jobs out there. I mean, there'll be hundreds of threads like these that criticize refs, but how often will you see a thread with the title like, "Best call by an Official?".... [IMG] that'll actually be a pretty crappy thread now that I think about it...

Anyways, in reponse to this thread, I would have to agree with the one that said the four point play by LJ....

One of the worst was the buzzer beater by Baron Davis when he was on the Hornets in the playoffs, that was discounted. It clearly (by a long shot) left his hands, and it would have won the game for them had it counted. The game went into OT, but luckily for them, they won the game and the series. This call led to the use of the replay at the end of quarters. Somebody remind me of the opposing team and the year. It was probably like 3 or 4 years ago.

How about Game 7 of the '94 ECF, NY vs Indiana in NY. I believe the Pacers were down by 1 and NY had the ball in the backcourt near the end of the game. Reggie went to commit the intentional foul by lightly shoving one of the Knick players (I forget who). Worst case, in that situation, the Knicks hit both free throws and Indiana has a chance to tie with a 3-pointer. But instead, the stupid ref actually calls a flagrant foul on Reggie which gives the Knicks two free throws and the ball back and basically eliminates any chance for Indiana tying the game. I couldn't believe that call. 7th game of the ECF, and the freakin' ref decided the outcome with a boneheaded call.

I could get mad the refs at times, but I understand their job and the situation they're in.

    You guys should acknowledge that.</div>

I could swear this topic was called "Worst call by an official" not "Giving some credit to the refs who make bad calls, lets feel sorry for them"

And if they did their jobs right, like they are paid to do, we wouldnt be discussing this would we. Yeah ppl make mistakes, and thats why we get to make this thread and point them out.

Lakers vs. Cavs March 20, 2006. the whole game was decided because of the refs. Terrible officiating. Absolutely inexcusable. This is getting way out of hand...

This may sound completely wrong, but I like the superstar calls. I personally find it entertaining when someone takes over the game. It signals out the true stars more and as a fan of the NBA I kind of enjoy it in a way. I know I would think otherwise though if I was a hard working role player in the league such as a guy like Chuck Hayes for example.

It's hard to signal out one specific call as the worst, but I think the worst thing is the inconsistancy of the refs such as caling a foul on a little push one half and then in the other let the game get very physical.
