F'ing sissy control freaks want to fix what ain't broke. There's nothing wrong with the OT board. In fact it's damn near perfect.

Really, the only improvement I think possible would be if people who want to change it just made their own little meeting place somewhere else.

Politics and religion are inseparable from most aspects of life. Good luck attracting posts to your thread about quilting techniques.

    A single thread would do.

Actually, we already have one. RANDOM SHIT. Maybe the OP hasn't seen it.

That's before I saw the Hunt for Red October. A sub forum would be cool.

I think the net is filled with political and theological debate so when I come to a basketball forum and a Blazers forum, it's out of context for me...I'm new so haven't been here during an election campaign but seems like it would fill up the Blazers threads...maybe it doesn't. I have no problem clicking out of these threads but as a Blazer fan, don't like to see these topics under a sports thread forum. It's like spam to me. I would like to see a sub catagory for those threads. We all have varied interests but I don't think fans would enjoy threads on the political or theological differences from countries outside the US...just saying.

No need. There's an OT forum. You can skim the thread subjects and see if something interests you. Avoiding OT because you don't want politics or religion is like avoiding the main forum because you don't want threads on....I dunno, Meyers Leonard. If you see one with a title you don't like, don't click on it, and you'll avoid the religion and politics and Meyers Leonard posts.

These topics are already in a separate subforum. If you just view the Blazers main forum, you'll see nothing but basketball topics.

Thanks Denny! Being new here I didn't even know what the OT tag meant.

We could require thread prefixes. They're sorta like putting "OT" in the subject.

VBulletin actually has the feature built in, but I turned it off. I don't think people want to physically choose a prefix from our predefined list. Like we could add "POL" so political threads would require the thread starter to select POL from the list, and [ POL ] would show up in the thread topic automatically.

Beyond that functionality, I'm not sure if it buys us any software related features.

I also wouldn't want to turn it on if it affected more than the OT forum.

That just seems like an unnecessary step, unless there was also a feature where, for those who wanted to you can choose a setting to block specific tags. Like blocking a user, if oyu can block all POL tags or something. But again, just seems unnecessary. Does "How would you rank Obama?" really need a tag that says it's political in nature? And if you want to avoid political discussions in OT, wouldn't you know to skip that one and go to whatever else.

I'm not in disagreement with you. It's why I never turned on the feature. However, it does look useful for some things, like marking a thread NSFW, or marking a thread in Denny's List with WANTED, FOR SALE, SOLD, etc.

Here's a thread in an admin oriented forum about them.

    http://www.theadminzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102393

If we could at least sort by the prefix, you could push threads you don't want to see off the first page.
