I understand why people are reluctant to trade him, but the reality is that CJ is a 6'4 shooting guard who is mediocre defensively. He got abused by JJ Redick and Klay Thompson during the playoffs. I'm not convinced that Dame/CJ is a long term solution because they're both undersized and they're both poor defenders. If we could add a superstar at small forward or power forward, and the cost was CJ, I would do it.

After that article, for CJ it's the #1 AND Noel...Merry Christmas.

That's the key. No one in the draft is a for sure superstar. I'm not opposed to trading CJ, but it has to be for the right superstar. Not a draft pick.

Yep. Has to be for a player who has shown he can do it in the NBA. Not the promise that he might be able to because just as often as not those players don't end up doing it.

Yeah, but if we lost CJ our offense would go to shit. I don't think Noel is enough of an upgrade over Aminu or Ed Davis to warrant giving up our young budding star SG. Guys like him are not that hard to find.

As I said, still not enough for me to do the deal but tempting.

CJ's are hard to find. Noel's aren't all that easy to find either though. Good players aren't easy to find period. But I am all for sticking with CJ.

Why do people say DeRozen is a chucker? Honest question. The guy has a true shooting percentage of .550. CJ's is worse than that at .544. DeRozen takes about 5.5 less shots per game than CJ does. DeRozen gets to the line way more. Has a higher PER and a better defensive rating to boot.

    I don't get the hate

But who's going to trade a superstar, especially the "right" superstar for CJ McCollum.

I'd only do it for a PROVEN NBA superstar (or at least a borderline all star). There are none of those in this draft. Sure, Simmons and Ingram have the hype, but Andrew Wiggins was supposed to be the next LeBron, a can't miss future superstar and so far, he's barely average - a career 15.2 PER. He may eventually be a borderline all-star, but it's highly doubtful he'll ever be a superstar, and no way in hell is he the next LeBron.

I feel the same way about Simmons and Ingram. Perhaps one of them explodes and actually does become a superstar a few years down the road, but neither of them are can't miss superstars. They both have upside, but they both also have holes in their games that will be exploited at the NBA level.

And even if one of them does become a superstar, it would be just our luck that we'd get the one that doesn't. With the No. 2 pick, we don't even get to choose the one we want. We rely on someone else to control our destiny.

I really don't want CJ to get traded. It was his first season playing consistent minutes. I feel like there's no way we've seen everything

AND HE GOT THE FIRE, MAN

If you want to come up with an idea for trading CJ, it needs to be for a substantially good player. Not a role player like Nerlens Noel.

Cousins has been thrown around, but I don't think he fits the culture we're trying to maintain here...and look at his FG%.

One guy I would think about is Jonas Valanciunas. He could hold down the for at center for years to come. 24 years old, from Lithuania, good size and athletisim for a big man. Good rebounder, shot blocker, interior defender, shoots 57% from the field, 77% from the FT line, averaged 18/13 per 36 minutes last year. Jonas and #9 for CJ?

DeRozan had a bit of a bounce-back year for sure. Look at his other years. Or just ask @speeds what the fans up there think of the player (or even what the team itself thinks reportedly).

And CJ is a really likeable player. Well spoken, intelligent, he and Dame will make a very good pair for years to come.

What if that pick could be flipped for a superstar?

    For example - Anthony Davis.

If we offered up Simmons (assuming he's still there), Plumlee, and Vonleh for Davis, would the Pelicans accept?

Davis has health concerns, but he's a top 5 player in the league. The Pelicans probably wouldn't deal him for CJ, but they might be willing to do it for someone like Simmons.

Would you trade McCollum for Wiggins? Talent wise that probably makes us a better overall team because of the defense

    Interesting thought.

I wonder if we could trade CJ for Aldridge :deadhorse:

The text in blue is the reason for the text in red. You've answered your own question as to why people think he's a chucker. He IS a chucker, but because he draws fouls it increases his TS% and reduces his FGA. Without looking up percentages, CJ is a much better shooter.

I've waffled back and forth on DeRozan, but after watching some of the TOR/MIA series I am 100% AGAINST signing him.
