To be fair, the OP simply asked blazer fans if they'd be willing to do that trade. He didn't make any suggestion that Cleveland would want to. barfo
Actually, there is a chance Cleveland would do something like this - if Lebron said to them and to the media something like "There is a 100% chance I'm leaving, I don't want to play here anymore, under any conditions." Would you trade Oden for a 1 year rent of Lebron - doubt it. If there were some assurances he'd re-sign, then of course I'd do the trade. However, I don't think LeBron would say any such thing, hence the protestations in this thread.
I'd trade Oden for some patient fans who weren't looking to trade players because they have unrealistic and fucking moronic expectations and no ability to realize that just 3 games ago people were getting huge boners for Greg. This might be the single most bi-polar fan base in the whole sporting world. One minute this team is going to do great things, the next minute Greg Oden will always suck and the team won't ever do shit. At least MM is consistent with his tried and true (and tired) bitching about the coach. Win or loss, he comes up with all sorts of shit to pile onto the coach.
Your "bake it" campaign of 2009 has succeeded in making you the most annoying and retarded poster of the year thus far. Congrats. That's good work.
To be fair it isn't a run away Let's see, there are...... 1. My Nate rants 2. Mixum...enough said 3. Check mate 4. Bake it 5. Every poster looking through rose garden colored glasses. I mean it's not cut and dry.
I merely asked the question: Would you trade Oden now? Eighteen months ago, GO was the savior. I remember KP stating that there was only one player in the League that he'd consider giving up the number 1 pick for (only could guess he meant Lebron). Most of the posters over at BBF (I was mostly a lurker, and under a different screen name, that I can't even remember now! - getting old!), including myself felt that GO was in fact the next coming - a Bill Russell, etc. After seeing his lathargic-style of play - I'm now wondering if I would be lured into a trade of GO and if so, who would I take over GO right this moment? From another perspective, eighteen months ago, I think that Portland may very well have been able to get ANY OTHER PLAYER (aside from Lebron) for our first pick! Maybe this is not necessarily true, but I remember reports that SA was courting us with Tim Duncan! Would you take Tim Duncan today for GO, straight-up? Would we not improve our chances to win a title within the next two years with Duncan, Aldridge, Roy, Rudy, Outlaw, (and another key puzzle piece with Raef's contract)> I would make the deal in a heartbeat. Why? Because Championships are never predictable. You simply cannot build a team around the notion that "bake it and in three years we'll begin a stretch of 5 NBA champioships" - just not realistic! The Boston Celtics of the 60's will never happen again. Players move around, teams are not patient, fans are not patient. Staying on point - would you trade Oden & Outlaw today for Mayo & Gay? I would. Would you trade Oden & Outlaw today for Duncan and Parker? I would. Would you trade Oden & Outlaw today for Bosh & Calderon? I would. Funny thing is, Memphis, San Antonio and Toronto - would not (today) make such a trade! I'm sorry, but this has nothing to do with "waiting for the young rookie big man to learn the NBA game" - this has more to do with "GO is not, nor ever will be GO-D" that we all dreamt of eighteen months ago. Imagine: Calderon Roy Bosh LA Pryz or Mayo Roy Gay LA Pryz (Cambie for Raef's expiring) or Tony Parker Roy Webster LA Duncan (with Pryz off the bench) or you can wait for three years - and hope that the cake hasn't been all cut up before it bakes (cause you know the entire roster of Outlaw, Webster, etc. will not be around in three years) and HOPE that we are ready to begin that run of Championships. Would you trade Oden now? Absolutely. Not for Marc Gasol mind you, but for two veterans? or for two youngsters with game? We all know what we really have in Portland - his name is ROY. We have to build a cast around Roy. Sorry, but Oden and Roy does not represent a marriage made in basketball heaven guys.
There is no way you're getting Calderon AND Bosh, or Parker AND Duncan. Not going to happen. Maaaaybe Mayo and Gay, but probably not. With that said, we're not trading Oden. The guy has so many possibilities. If anyone could lead us to a title, it's Greg Oden. Period.
And tonight is why you bookmark the posts that the clown prince of s2 makes (and his jester Fez) about players sucking or needing to be traded, or whatever.
LeBron is off the charts and only 24, so you pretty much have to do the deal. Oden looks like he will be good, but LeBron is already there. KP wouldn't hesitate for one second. LeBron + Roy + LA = Multiple Titles.
