We just need a ring of honor or a Trail Blazers hall of fame to honor all of these other guys that we want to remember but aren't even close to worthy of a number being retired. CJ isn't even the first on my list for this type of thing, Cliffy, Jerome, Duckworth and even Petrovic are all players I'd want in this ring of honor or team hall of fame before CJ because of their untimely deaths but for sure CJ and Sheed would be in there along with a bunch of other guys.

100% should be retired. Look at the numbers. We can’t punish current and future Blazers because they went overboard with the other players.

The bar is so low to get your number retired in Portland that we might as well. We'll probably have to go to 3 digit jerseys by 2050, but whatever. Hell, we could use it as a way to lure free agents! Come to Portland where you're the only sport, you'll get paid twice as much (because we always overpay) and if you act this week and stick it for 8 seasons you're guaranteed to have your jersey help to insulate the Moda center rafters.

There's plenty of space up there as it's uncluttered by too many championship banners.

If Bill Simmons is right and we're the soccer mom team, then why not give everyone a participation retirement?

Anyway, there's retirement, and there's statues. We have no statues in Portland, but there should be one for Dame and one for Walton.

At least for a couple of years until that escalates and we get the Burghers of Calais next to the fountain.

We have been too undiscriminating in the past, which makes it harder for new players to get in, and rightfully so.
    So, no to CJ.

But, it brings up a good point about criteria:
Should a player have his jersey retired who was never an allstar?
Should a player have his jersey retired who was traded in the peak of his career, and for peanuts?
Should a player have his jersey retiree who is popular? (RoLo, Briant Grant)

    no, no, no.

That said, I love CJ as a person, and really hope he lives in Oregon post-retirement.

Do you think CJ would have been in the Finals in 1992, with Clyde, Terry, Buck and Duckworth?

I'm not saying I want his number to be retired or that it should, I'm saying it will be probably will be eventually.

Doesn't matter to me. Retiring numbers and championship rings are for reality. We'd have multiple championships if Sabonis came right over, but I don't want to retire his jersey either.

Heck, Cliff was an all star and I don't want to retire his. CJ was pretty darn good on one side of the court for us. That's just not enough.

The stats were sometimes flashy, but it terms of actual on-court impact I am of the opinion that he was no better than Wes Matthews. (pre-injury, obviously) :bwpopcorn:

The only reason I voted yes was because I imagine him coming back later in his career to help the blazers win their 4th consecutive title.

I can think of no circumstance where I would even consider retiring Aldridge here.

I would add at least four more to that great list. No. one, I'd add Bill Schonely, the Schonz.
