It's not that we "overvalue" our own players. Obviously Aldridge was at value of what most of us claimed. He got max! CJ and Leonard are the bright spots. Something to look forward to. They may be just average players, but they could become very efficient and lethal weapons for us. I just want to see them play with minutes. Wanna see if they can hang.
Or you're overvaluing DD... Career 27% from three 0.2 Vorp Career 15 PER Contract extension will come up when the cap goes way up His style has steadily progressed into Rudy Gay territory - me me me basketball.
I hear you Mags, but neither are even close to sure things. We have plenty of potential in Vonleh and Plumlee at big positions, and Ed Davis who can backup both positions. Leonard probably has the most trade value of them all, and he's one of my favorite guys on the team, but he hasn't shown he is an all star level player yet. Neither has McCollum, and I just don't see his as anything other than a 6th man type. He looked awesome in the playoffs, but he was being guarded by Udrih and Calathes at times. I'm not convinced he is as good as blazer fans want to think he is. DD is a guy that is a bonafide all star caliber player.
CJ and Meyers are more valuable to us for rebuilding than other teams. Don't make a trade for the sake of making a trade their needs to be an incentive to both teams. We will look to acquire youth for either vets or overpaid contracts. Not the other way around.
I agree about CJ maybe not being a starter type player, but I like that he can create his shot and be a "dame light" when damn gets rest. Who knows they both may look good together. We really haven't had the opportunity to see it work. I also agree that Leonard probably gives us the best trade chip, but this is the moment he can really jump out and do something amazing. He looks motivated and ready to show us who he really is. I like that!
Yeah; the downside of them realizing their potential on another team isn't worth the risk of us cashing in their upside now. If we were title contenders maybe we try to go that route but not when we're rebuilding.
Giving up Meyers would be like trading a young Jermaine Oneal for an old, Dale Davis..Oneal went on to be an allstar and we were so happy to get Davis who turned out to be less than spectacular
Well Duh. Aldridge got max. Blazers fans completely overvalue the young potential guys. "Let it bake"
100% this. You don't trade players that have upside while you rebuild unless that player is a game changer. I'm talking like Boogie caliber players.
After 2.5 years of "oh fuck Meyers" it's going to be fun to have him become a special player. We've earned the right to watch him play well for a stretch
I agree with the premise (swap some bigs for smalls, though I've heard you should NEVER EVER do that)... But Derozan isn't the small and Leonard may not be the big that should be part of the conversation. If anything, it should be Leonard for Ross...both teams give up a high-upside young prospect on a rookie contract with years of team control left in a position where they have some depth to fill a roster need. I'm not saying I would do that trade, but that's eminently more discussion-worthy than one revolving around Derozan. Clippers need some bigs, badly. S&T Freeland (even though I know it'd be tough to keep him away from Moscow) and Kaman for Redick could work...they can either run with those two bigs or flip Kaman for a 7.5M player or package. Right now they're stuck b/c they are over the cap (or not enough over to matter) and used up most of their MLE, and many of their contracts aren't trade-friendly (either too large for their key players or too small to aggregate into anything).
I have been thinking about Ross, since it appears that Toronto was down on him this past year. But is he really that much better than Crabbe? Leonard seems a little too much for Ross. Isn't' he basically a stand still 3 point shooter? He has great hops, but does he utilize them in a half court game? He seems one dimensional to me
