Good news...since we couldn't move his contract, maybe we keep him? A Nurkic/Ezeli big man rotation would be sick!
Could you imagine being an NBA player and getting paid to have multiple free knee surgeries by some of the best doctors in the country. Not saying Festus wouldn't rather be out there on the court...
Shocking news! Seriously, it doesn't say what kind of knee surgery. So, I guess it could be anything from draining fluid to an amputation. It does make you wonder why he put it off so long, what the recovery time will be, if there will be a recovery. He was supposedly considering the surgery back in mid-December. Does he plan to try to play in 2017-18? Will he be ready by the start of the season - impossible to say since we have no idea what kind of surgery he is having. BNM
The whole point of moving his contract was as a nearly (only $1 million guaranteed) expiring contract. They were not trying to pass him off as damaged goods. They knew he wouldn't pass a physical. Anyone trading for him for him would have waived him before June 30. We were trying to move him to a team under the salary floor to get another $1 million closer to being under the luxury tax threshold for the 2017-18 season. BNM
This guy's done. He needs to take that surgery and retire. I personally don't think he'll ever play another minute on the court again.
I have no idea about the condition of Ezeli's knee or the likelihood that he can play NBA basketball again. I do know that we have Odenitis around here and pretty jaded reactions when we hear about knee surgery for centers. He seems like a good dude. Wish him nothing but the best.
I predict that Festus will play next year for the Blazers and we will have a steller defensive team in 2018-2919. Mark this thread and recall when I am right!!!! gatorpops does it again
Well that certainly answers my question about why they waited so long to perform the surgery. Thanks for posting that link. BNM
Just read up on his surgery the rate for failure is high. Not saying he will one the lucky one but don't look to bright for him playing for Blazers.
