Not sure who or what you're responding to. I said I could live with with Tex' embarrassing BA if he can come close to maintaining this HR/ RBI/ OPS pace throughout the season. You said you wouldn't be "okay' with his BA under these (my) circumstances... Fair enough - put him on the bench if you like. As for Drew- it is NOW time for him to start bringing his BA/OBP at least close to respectability or put his ass on the bench as the "backup 2b/SS", and as I have said a few times....the Yanks will NOT continue to go with Drew with his terrible BA /OBP unless he shows more extra base hits (HRs- Doubles). Pirela is now "here"....kid looks like he can hit.....but we don't need any butchers at 2b. If he holds his own at 2b, he could be there for the long haul. This is the reason why Refsnyder has not been "here", for now.
...nope, I.m not fine with it either. Tex has gotten off to the quickest HR start of his whole career...and there's no way he's gonna sustain this pace and hit 60 HRs.
Agree - he won't sustain THIS pace....but.....he is off to a great start power wise,and a realistic pace for 35-40 HRs and a bunch of RBI, good OBP, and excellent OPS- with a poor BA just might be the "best" we can expect from Tex. Chances are, he'll bet bogged down with bumps and bruises.....If stays away from the DL or doesn't get banged up with a long term nagging injury- Tex (and 1b) will NOT be one of the Yanks' big problems as the season moves along. Obviously I would like to have a ".300 hitter, 30 HR" guy with a good glove at 1b.
...what we should "expect" from Tex is to put his selfish plate approach aside and stop trying to hit a 5-run HR every time at bat...yeah, he'll hit some HRs but sometimes a simple base hit the opposite way will suffice. ...I have no problem with him looking for a pitch to pull and drive early in the count, but once he gets 2 strikes on him he needs to take what the defense is giving him, swallow his pride, and simply go the other way and take the gimme base hit. ...with 2 strikes on him, Tex is 3 for 40 (.094)
His OBP is currently .330 which is #8 amoung league 1b.....a couple pts behind the 7th spot and almost 20 pts ahead of the 1b being him. However - he is currently 1st in HR and RBI and 3rd in OPS amoung league 1b with the great Miggy leading in OPS, and the immortal Hosmer in the # 2 spot. Still early.....I agree Tex DOES need to chip in with a few hits here and there....but I wouldn't complain if I knew he was going to be in the lineup for the whole season and not pull up lame....because I don't think he has been one of the serious "problems" with this team's offense thus far. Let's keep in mind the Yanks have had two other infielders who are both batting BELOW their weight with just a few less HRs and RBI than Tex....lol Good news is HERE....it is JOSE PIRELA. The kid looks as if, for now , the biggest worry the Yanks will have with him is whether or not he actually hurts himself because he goes full blast all the time...on every pitch and inch of the field. Lol I like this kid. He'll eventually learn to control himself on the bases in certain situations.
I didn't get to see much of last night's game because I tortured myself by watching the last game of the Rangers playoffs for me this season. It's officially baseball season. I love that Pirela is here. Not because he'll definitely spell a terrible Drew but because it bucks the propensity for the Yanks to give guys like Drew (a perceived "track record") a long leash. Pirela and Drew platooning might work. I like the hustle from Pirela, was able to see him hustle out a double. That was great. As for Tex. We can hope for a .250 BA all we want but those days are long over. Let's just be glad he went gluten free and has been able to help carry the team through some wins this early. Imagine this team right now if Texeira had his typical slow start? You can't expect him to keep up this pace but if the guys ahead of him could keep up a strong OBP, those HRs will be more than solo shots more often. We need that guy, so it's best to accept what he's become. He's proven and even outright said he won't change. BTW, has anyone seen Garret Jones
I'm hoping we see more life from McCann, Gregorius, Headley and of course Beltran. A sustained marked improvement from ANY two of those batters would be a big help.

I would love to see Tex or any other LH Yankee batter just stick the bat out and hit a half-ass ground ball towards the general area of 3rd base. It would be an entertaining hit. Wouldn't it be fun to watch Matty Alou batting against an exaggerated shift? lol Almost worth the price of admission to see a few batters consistently beat the shift with weak ground balls towards 3rd base to the point where the defense actually loosens up a bit on their shift....entertaining and gratifying. But, I know it isn't going to happen.
It would if you were a team player. Hell you could see that McCann is trying, Tex isn't even doing that.
No, actually I was talking about "sticking the bat out" hitting grounders towards the 3rd base area CONSISTENTLY to the point where the opposition gets fed up with having runners on 1st and 3rd on two ground balls towards "3rd base" and loosens its shift..... ....not going to happen.... And McCann isn't exactly doing it either....in fact how many actual ground balls have you seen him hit past the 3rd base area against the shift for a hit? Can't be more than one....if any. Is there?
So far this year McCann's battered balls - Right field (pulled) = 43.7%, CF = 33.8%, LF = 22.5% I didn't check Teixeira's spray chart but I'd bet its probably around 10% (if that).
