Slightly off-topic; Good read on the current day managers. https://apple.news/AS9B6TgnpQ-ixmlGac6mDXg
Boone/Steinbrenner...again, SMH. "As Steinbrenner told the media, he intends on having near future discussions about potentially extending Boone's contract with general manager Brian Cashman. Per The Athletic, Steinbrenner indicated that these talks will likely take place after the Yankees are more settled into their offseason plans." https://sports.yahoo.com/m/e7c4d941-724f-34cf-84f3-1391f155f251/yankees-hal-steinbrenner.html
I wish Soto would tell Steinbrenner that he will not resign with the Yankees unless he fires Cashman and Boone! Can’t imagine Boone being extended after he allowed 2 World Series games to go down the drain. We should have been playing game 6 up 3-2 with a real manager!
Soto will be a Met. It’s all about the money and Cohen has made it clear he will beat anyone’s price. Frankly, as good as he is I’m not into signing anyone for 15 years at that money. You can get 2-3 solid players for that. I’d be very surprised if he ends up back here.
Yup, and it's always been "about the money" with Soto...he's a good hitter but IMO, certainly does not justify being paid 1 cent more than Judge. And yeah, we've talked about this before because moving on from DJ, Strohman, Rizzo, and Torres (approximately $64 Mil total for all 4) and then not adding Soto's forecast of $40 Mil, that brings us to roughly $104 Mil that could be used to restructure the roster by addressing offense, defense, starting pitching and relief pitching.
Yankees non-tender Jon Berti https://sports.yahoo.com/m/b888ec42-6199-3d73-b3d0-58f387366f7b/yankees-non-tender-jon-berti.html
Very good write up that mirrors my contention that the Yanx should not go crazy by over-paying for Soto. https://apple.news/AFbMXzjYdQ66BE_IMgt5kjA
Wouldn't mind adding this guy...solid all around player, which is the type player the Yanx need that I've been clamoring about for years; https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/tuckeky01.shtml
Solid upgrade, but I always worry how someone from the National League will translate to the American League not to mention playing in Yankee Stadium.
...Clay Holmes/Aroldis Chapman 2.0 ? =============================================================================== Yankees add strikeout RP Fernando Cruz from Reds in exchange for veteran C Jose Trevino https://sports.yahoo.com/yankees-ad...nge-for-veteran-c-jose-trevino-042207700.html The New York Yankees added a strikeout reliever to their bullpen, acquiring Fernando Cruz from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for catcher Jose Trevinoon Friday. Cruz, 34, struck out 109 batters in 66 2/3 innings with a 4.86 ERA in 69 appearances. His strikeout total ranked fourth among MLB relievers last season. Luke Weaver led Yankees relievers with 103 strikeouts in 2024. In three seasons with Cincinnati, Cruz averaged 13.9 strikeouts per nine innings with a 4.52 ERA in 141 appearances. 2024 season 66.2 IP 4.86 ERA 1.34 WHIP 109 K 35 BB
With Trevino gone, maybe Ben Rice back to Catcher? https://dartmouthsports.com/sports/baseball/roster/ben-rice/26818
Me either...declining numbers...hell we coulda got that kind of production from Rizzo. Only good thing I can say about Goldschmidt is that he's durable and he's a RHed batter, which we need.
Contract details emerge for Yankees one-year deal with electric reliever https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb...al-electric-reliever/edcb85865feae27dd421a01f The New York Yankees brought back an exciting arm to the bullpen this offseason, re-signing Jonathan Loaisiga on a one-year deal. Even though the 30-year-old is coming off a torn UCL that is likely to delay his start for the 2025 season, Loaisiga has always been held in high regard due to his electric stuff. With the signing, the contract details have emerged, and the one-year deal comes with an option and incentives in 2026, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post. Heyman reported that the deal is a one-year contract worth $5 million with a club option for 2026, which would cost another $5 million. There's a signing bonus for $500,000 and the incentives for the 2026 season include $100,000 each if Loaisiga reaches 50, 55, 60, 65 and 70 innings pitched. Loaisiga has a career 3.44 ERA and a 2.89 ERA since becoming a full-time reliever in 2021. During that span, he's logged 115 strikeouts across 140.1 innings. He began his MLB career as a swingman between the rotation and bullpen in 2018. However, he evtnually became a reliable arm to use across multiple innings. He then settled into a set-up role. Injuries, though, have been a major part of Loaisiga's career. He was limited by elbow inflammation that required surgery to remove a bone spur in 2023. Right-shoulder inflammation cut his season short in 2022 with a shoulder strain, and he's now undergone Tommy John twice in his professional career (once in the minor leagues). The Yankees added Devin Williams to the back-end of the bullpen and have Luke Weaver returning for more late innings. If Loaisiga can stay healthy, the Yankees could have a formidable trio to help close out games.
