    I understand.
There's plenty of time left in this season for the Yanks to finish last in their division.
They have had a rough schedule up to this point (travel-wise) and maybe they could begin putting something together with a few homestands.

...it's not "baloney"...it was a very simple question.

Blg is correct, effin Costa's misspoke. 2nd fastest Belmont for a TC winner (Secretariat still owns track records for all 3 races). 6th fastest Belmont for the 1.5mi race....Belmont length was set to that distance in 1926.

The Kentucky Derby was slow this year, but that race time is a factor of the field size and pace. Preakness time was also a little slower than normal but the race was on a sloppy track in a downpour. It was obvious, going back and watching the races over that AP was being held back until late in all 3 races. Very well executed strategy by the trainers and jockey, matched by the horses performance.

So....of the past 11 TC winners, 5 came in years that the Yanks won the world series (1937, 1941, 1943, 1977 and 1978).

...gotcha...I showed my wife the video of the Secretariat race from start to finish, and believe it or not, she had never seen it...still gives me goose bumps whenever I watch it. It's probably the most dominating sports event I've ever witnessed.

About on par with winning the Indy500 by 15.5 miles (~3% total distance as the margin of victory).

    1989 Preakness -
Sunday Silence vs Easy Goer was one of the most thrilling races I've ever seen.
    Breathtaking.
Easy Goer was the "big name" horse and Sunday Silence beat him in the Derby and a fabulous Preakness putting him in position to win the TC....
....then Easy Goer came back and showed a lot of balls beating Silence in the Belmont.

Sunday Silence had/has become one of those Thoroughbred fan favorites/cultish heroes. Check out the '89 Preakness - great duel!

Affirmed v Alydar the best duel in triple crown horse racing....not even debatable.

    Absolutely..agree.
But that '89 Preakness was awesome. lol
Down the stretch Easy Goer looked as if he actually turned his head and took a long look at Sunday Silence who gave a quick look in return.... Then Easy Goer turned away quickly and Sunday Silence pulled ahead a little bit...

Ironic thing about Affirmed and Alydar....
Affirmed won the races but Alydar was clearly the better sire. (?) lol
