The way he often squints, like a gopher peeking out of its hole, I wonder: Does Gardner need glasses...? Seriously, eyesight oversights, have often been problems with players, who either can't hit a ball, steal a base, or slide correctly with a large variety of slides to execute. Just my 2 cents........!!
Tex deserves the AL 1st Base - Gold Glove, for all the numerous shit for throws, he's saved. Honestly Tex will be considered for the 1st B. GG. 2 Errors in 715.2 Attempts, with a .997 Fldg. Pctg. ties Tex with Hosmer, but one less error and a .999 Fldg Pctg AL Leader so far is: Logan Morrison (who??), ..........???? Logan Morrison, Seattle - Why should Seattle even count,.....? Robbie's just now feeling that Seattle drizzle gloom and doom, ...... 100s of Toll Bridges, every fkn where ya' drive.but boy is the Salmon to die for, and Forests where 'tall Mts. walk'.
^^^Matts, I don't know what criteria they use to select Gold Glove winners but the problem with Fldg. % is that it does not measure the number of throwing errors saved by a 1Bman...and Tex has made the Yanx' infield much much better ever since he came to NY, both in fielding ground balls and line drives at his position as well as digging low throws out of the dirt.
That's the best question/answer I've heard yet, on who and how is a player selected by his peers, coaches, other players and coaches, for an award, that's been over defined to a point, its hard to find a 'real' explanation on How or Why a given player wins a gold glove... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...s-the-biggest-farce-of-end-year-awards-season I've been looking for the best explanation of the criteria for winning a Gold Glove. The deeper I dug, the more I'm beginning to think its at best; ie, a popularity contest, instead of a measure of fielding, less throwing, not quit a complete measure of one's overall performance defensively;.....definitely not quit the award, I've often thought it to be: see what I mean, the fldg pctg alone, has been so over bloated by over analysis,.......like these: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...s-the-biggest-farce-of-end-year-awards-season This read, and feeble over indulgent attempt to measure a sport with a "Society for American Baseball Research", (SABR, says it all); like spending millions for new age instant analysis/stats, stat cast or sabr metrics........ this read alone, is enough to make the reader go cross eyed blind, realizing after the mental draining, it didn't much matter after all, since there's more popular opinion, than honest vote, from Coaches and Managers, who cannot vote for any players on their own team.....while= players should be free to vote for players on other teams, or their own teams also. Wait a minute, this doesn't sound sensible, what about players who play in small markets, not being able to vote for their own........? We almost saw that in the AS game this yr, for a small market team, while MLB stated, we had a "glitch tweak" we do yearly......and for the 1st time admitting as much, ever.......wtf....? http://sabr.org/research/measuring-defense-entering-zones-fielding-statistics we got: Range Factor, Relative Range Factor, Adjusted Range Factor, Defense Efficiency Record, with a 'Fielding Runs, Fielding Wins' another BS metric, continue on to: Zone Rating, Tracking, Defensive Zone Tracking, and not least or last - "Ultimate Zone Rating"......piles of BS on piles of more BS, with no end in sight.....! then we have- W.A.R, which we all know my thoughts and most others, on WAR being a horseshit, meaningless stat,....... I once admired Bill James, when he first wrote His Baseball Abstract First Couple/Few Years, then enough became too much, no sense.... more is not always better........
Not if it's broken by getting slower ever so slightly... then it might be right once a day, but not likely
