When your team scores 5 in the first, you step on their neck. Well.....Have to give them credit coming back, executing a 1-2-5 gem to gain the double play and holding the one run lead for a win.
Wow, tough crowd. Relax everyone its early and this cold weather when you see a lot of the players with ski masks on is absolutely brutal to hit in. And I will remind all that we are still missing our first baseman and centerfielder and our second baseman who I believe got 4 hits today can't come back till he satisfies the yankee service time rule so that they get and extra year out of him. God knows what the deal is with our third baseman who has been having migraines and blurred vision for 6 years and for some unknown reason chose not to share it with anyone. (hello andujar) here is your chance to get some decent playing time. I don't know what to make of our starters as they are the same with a year more experience of the crew that had as a team one of the better era's in the league. I hope this analytics is not going to see boone going to the bullpen from the 4th to 6th inning every game as to me the group as a whole is a little overrated ( who exactly coming in besides green(in most cases) doesn't scare the hell out of you. All this being said that was a friggin brutal outing by monty today not holding the crapball orioles after being spotted a 5 run lead in the first inning and giving up 10 hits in 4 innings before he was mercifully relieved of his duties. We'll turn it around shortly as sounds like hicks is on his way back sometime this week and by the end of the week we 'll get some warmer weather. Question I have in this game is can anyone explain to me why the hell gardner is bunting in that situation (he made a horrible bunt that should have been an easy out at 3rd that the pitcher misplayed) when even if successful buck is walking judge to face a lost stanton at the moment. Made no sense to me.
How does patience improve inconsistent pitching? Yes, it is early in the season. Yankee pitching leaves much to be desired. I do not think patience will help the pitchers on this staff.
...and the Yanx provided neither a fly ball nor a base hit...following Gardner is Judge and Stanton who strike out a lot and are not contact hitters...that is why you DON'T bunt. http://www.danblewett.com/run-expectancy-bunting-bad/
Well lets see what happened... Bunt..error..bases loaded...double play..do judge and stanton strike out a lot sure...do they hit a lot of flyballs...i kinda think that also happens alot Bases loaded and no one out you would expect the almost AL MVP and the current NL MVP between the two of them get a hit... Didnt happen and thats on them not the fact there was a bunt ahead of them
Strategy: Place your men in scoring position: Only on 0 or one outs, fielder position, dependable OBP player at bat and stats on the pitchers'/catchers' defensive capabilities.
...I don't know how to explain it any better...the stats show that bunting in that situation does not give you a better chance of scoring. 1. Regardless of what some may think, Gardner is simply not a good bunter, he's a fast runner...and I've seen him butcher many bunt attempts. 2. A sacrifice bunt results in an out 96% of the time. And if the bunt goes as it generally does Gardner would be out and the runners would move up to 2nd and 3rd...and Showalter would surely have intentionally walked Judge again which would then bring up Stanton again who had already struck out 4 times...so where's the advantage of bunting?...where's the rationale? 3. A sacrifice bunt also results in the lead runner being thrown out 17% of the time...and that % would be even higher with a slow ass runner like Romine and if Boone called for a bunt in that situation he also should have pinch run for Romine. 4. Gardner, as I said is a fast runner and should have been swinging away because he is a contact hitter and it is very unlikely he would have hit into a DP. With a 2-0 count he watched as a FB right down the middle go by him for a called strike (if he was bunting he should have been bunting then) and then promptly tried to bunt a splitter out of the strike zone (would made the count 3-1) and then tried to bunt another splitter with TWO strikes. ...we can argue back and forth about what might have happened but that fact is that you cannot prove a negative and you cannot assume the pitcher to make an error on an ill advised bunt play.
1- I've been saying as much for years. Cold Football weather around the nation becoming t/norm at beginning of seasons. Brutal is downplaying it imo. Watching the Rockies play in snow was insane, never been a Rockies fan, and only watched for the horrid amusement.... 2- I'm at a loss for words, how in the hell did this ever evade his pre-signing physical, especially a long condition Wow!!! 3- Reference #1. Could be cold weather, could be something else. Tho' it looks like every Pitcher across the nation can't hit their targets; even in sunny weather... MLB, so often a mystery as to why the gestation period for players is often off. A couple yrs back, Catchers from a majority of teams couldn't throw a runner out until June, so the nightly bb news revealed across both leagues...
Your Right! The batting order needs to be adjusted. Stanton could be 5 and that morphs into a good move.
LMAO.... I never learned the differences between a manifesto, treatise, **short story (War and Peace) and/or a haiku. guess there was a reason Mom used to call me babbleon-bob. heck, it took me more than a decade to make a point with 1 or 2 sentences on this and the BSPN boards. I can honestly say it was here where I learned to edit my context-
...yeah, I think it would be better at this point to separate the 2 mashers Stanton and Judge and I like Stanton better at 5 and I wouldn't mind DiDi hitting between them in the 4th spot.
