There were some dam good recoveries when needed this evening. Kept this game in check with a win as the end result.

May 2019- by far: more Homeruns were hit in MLB this month, 1,135 than any month of any year...

The HR Craze is in full effect by the majority of Mgrs, GM's, Commish, fans and players alike.
As Billy Beane stated years ago: The Team who hits the most HR's wins 3/4 ths of the time, and Fans come to the ballpark to see balls flying out of the park.

3/4's of the time!!! Is the other 1/4 during playoffs?? When excellent pitching silences big bats....

Sure we all remember HR's, as a highlight of attending a game. I recall Reggie hitting 2 in a Doubleheader, in Oakland 1968.
I easily recall May's and McCovey hitting HR's back to back in 69.
Watching on TV , Willie Mays , Mike Schmidt and Bob Horner hit 4 homeruns in one game was exciting and somewhat Memorable but not on top of my list.

Joe Carter's 3 HR Games, 5 times in his career was more dramatic imo.

I recall my favorite- The Mick hitting #500 off of Stu Miller and the O's at YS in 67.

Even more dramatic imo is "The Perfect Game", of course a perfect game has only been accomplished only 23 times

I' ve seen only one in attendance- Sandy Koufax's Perfecto, Sept 9, 1963

Gaylord Perry's no-hitter September 17th 1968 at Candlestick Park, was a brilliant thing if beauty. Washburn of the Cardinals had also thrown one the prior game.

I never got to see one of Nolan Ryan's 7 no hitters in attendance, but did catch all all 7 on TV.

Fans get bored when bats are silenced, sad enough.

So let's do what the commissioner wants, and add 2 new expansion cities, so we can water down the pitching Talent even more-so than it has been over the last 20++ years...
Then we can watch even more balls flying out of the park. Maybe fans should be given Ritalin voluntarily, when they walk through the turnstiles for attention deficit disorder...

 

Pitching duels to me were like reading a mystery novel. Tension builds inning by inning until one team or the other finally breaks through for a win. One of the best TV games I ever saw between the Yankees and Boston was back in '09 Becket vs Burnett. Each started went 7 plus but the game wnt on for 15 innings. It ended when A-hole of all people hit a two run bomb in the 15th to win the gam.
