A couple of thoughts regarding the constant indictment and/or denunciation of the Yanks "relying on the HR too much" . I understand , and am not surprised if the Yanks have one of the worst, if not THE worst W-L records in the league when they do NOT hit a HR but,... Curious, just how much poorer is the Yanks W-L when NOT hitting a HR compared to other teams when they also don't hit a HR. Some examples: Astros, Angels, Baltimore ,Toronto, Boston, Oakland, Texas, Detroit...... Seems to me, so far, the biggest reasons for the big difference in the Yanks W-L record when hitting a HR (and not) is obviously having a weak bottom third of the lineup - although I doubt if the Yanks would be terribly disappointed if Gregorious can bat at least .240 for the rest of the season.....AND....not having a consistent ace pitcher and generally having weak SP (ERA) as a group. Missing Ellsbury for over a month.....quite a difference having Ellsbury and Gardner batting 1-2 instead of Gardner and Headley. The Yanks or their fans NEVER had a problem with the team "relying" or hitting alot of HRs in past seasons and decades.... The exception was those championship caliber teams also had GOOD pitching and some more life from the bottom of the order. Drew's BA is less than his weight and just a few more hits here or there would've helped this team win a couple more games.....of course we already know this. NOTHING wrong with hitting alot of HRs. It's the lack of consistent quality SP they send out there day after day and having a couple of pieces of dead wood at the bottom of the lineup which are the culprits, ... hitting "too many HRs" is not the problem. The "Bronx Bombers" didn't get their name by being your average power team. (I'm chuckling, and rolling my eyes)
Why do you take any/all criticisms of this team so personally? Unless your last name is Steinbrenner or Cashman, give it a rest. You cannot parse away this teams over dependence on the home run, and you look foolish trying. This team lacks balance and depth, period. It's mgmt's fault because they did not strategically plan for either. We have a team saddled with bad deals, poor decisions and CYA moves. You've got a tremendously diverse fanbase on this site that can collectively agree to these flaws...and most are bigger homers than you. You want to enjoy the second half around here....tone it the fuck down. Otherwise we're all going to leverage the "ignore" feature and you can merrily talk to yourself.
