Don't make my Head Spin Ron. I haven't even read the book yet. Honestly I really didn't want it because I have no idea how to use them but like you said as long as I can keep in touch that's all that matters. I will ask him tomorrow he is already in bed. :biglaugh:

Lil, what Ron is asking you is (1) what version is your iPhone, a 6 or 7 series; and (2) what technology model #, there are models for GSM (europe, parts of asia), CDMA (north america) or combo GSM/CDMA which is also referred to as the global iphone. Which version you have also depends on the carrier, AT&T vs Verizon or Sprint. Some carriers in North America only get CDMA phones that don't work in other parts of the world.

If your phone is CDMA/GSM type you should be okay. However there are a couple of caveats, if the phone is "locked" or under contract, you may not be able to drop in another SIM card, and if so than likely only for data which it sounds to me your intended purpose. You can actually test this before you go, just buy a cheap prepaid data SIM card here and test out. Then when you arrive in Guatemala, buy a couple prepaid data SIM cards. If its not locked than you can just by a local SIM card at the airport when you arrive in Guatemala.

Now if that isn't enough....keep in mind that most of the world is still 3G, and therefore doesn't have 4G speeds. This means it could be wickedly slow.

Now alternatively, if you are staying somewhere that has good WiFi....than just ignore all that above telcom stuff and in settings put your phone in airplane mode first and then manually toggle WiFi back on. Its really good idea to leave bluetooth off when traveling. Apple folks used to think they were immune, but turns out most of the major hacks going on these days is via Apple products because their users were mostly security ignorant. Heck, even the CIA's Apple hacks got hacked....no honor among theives.

If you get stuck and need to figure out an answer while traveling, I highly recommend TripAdvisors, some really good folks there. Whenever in a new city, I try to find their sponsored walking tours, always a lot of fun to get a local perspective usually from an American expat.

Thanks for the info Tom. I'm pretty sure the provider is Verizon but like I said I don't have the patience for those things. My old Phone was hardly ever used. I will figure it out and probably only use it in Guatemala.

No need to worry Lil' some of us still use a squirrel cage and coat hangar held over our heads; never falling prey to something smarter than ourselves....:devilwink:
I for one never cared for I-Phones, with more intelligence than what I can possess.... (that's what I have a Son for, allow me to use cruise control, while he does all the work).... the old Nav/Sat phone of yore was enough for me.

Tote is right on the Apple Viruses, exclusive only to Mac's, Apple products, though I've long preferred Apple over any thing else. I'm not sure any entity is free or hasn't been attacked, yet Apple seems to of made some enemies which exclusively have targeted them, and their products. That doesn't mean I'd not buy Apple products.

I was brainwashed into believing at a young age, by my Uncle, an IBM exec, who told me IBM was American IT at it's best, and working to put men in space, and on the moon. Long before Bill Gates infringed on Apple, with his Windows, long before Windows, we used IBM P.C.'s and tied into a LANS which was on each person's desk, IBM's.... then some of us were allotted our own Laptops, (who required such) my first ever: a Powerbook 100...... greatest thing in the world back then...! As for I-Phones, meh- they burn me out... plus I'm too blind to see, let alone my fingers don't work well on the keypads,...

as ya' can tell this is an outdated graphic....and so am I...!

^^^I bought my wife her first Mac (Macbook Air) for XMas...she caught on pretty quick...and just for shits and giggles, after a month I had her fire up the old Dell lap top she used beforehand...it took about 10 minutes for her to say "hell no".

The most interesting thing I see with business folks using Macs, they are still running most windows oriented software because MS basically owns client side of Enterprise s/w. These programs do not run faster or cleaner on Macs vs PCs.

Now if you can live fully within an apple oriented world, with perhaps a cross over into Google land, than Macs deliver....At a premium price. But post Jobs era, PC and Android based systems are catching up. I've seen some experimental home made laptops sporting GPU arrays rather than a multivitamin CPU....Thing things clock at amazing speeds. It's predicted that sometime late 2017/early 2018 we'll see MS surfacebook2 and a Google 2in1 Chromebook. These devices are expected to bridge the Apple advantage at a reduced cost. I'll believe the latter when I see it. In the meantime, Apple better have more than a watch and TV up it's sleeve, lol.
