Mutombo is actually doing pretty good. He's scoring enough and doing good on defense. You can't say he sucks since you haven't been watching him.

Do you guys we should start yao in the 2nd half of games..to finish off games ..since he always loses his fuel by halftime anyways. If I was coach we'd go 82-0. yao is best when he's not tired. I hope tmac will give yao easy looks and dunks..because from the orlando game, we could see that yao couldn't do it on his own even though he's the biggest man on the court.

Mutombo is doing very well as a backup. He comes in for less than 20 minutes a game and still is able to average 6 boards and 1.6 blocks per game. With less minutes, Deke will be less prone to injury and will be more effective late in games where we'll need his shotblocking presence.

I still don't get how Yao is over-hyped. He was never fit to lead a team, he doesn't have the control over his game yet. Hakeem wasn't a natural, smack-talkin, in-your-face, leader -- and Yao will never be either. Lead by example -- best way to go.

wen people say this is yao's team, i odn't think they are refering to him as a leader, but as an offensive presense. Its no secret that Van Gundy loves to base the offense around Yao, that doesn't necessarilly make him the leader. Seems like the best to fit the leader role might be Juwon Howard.

Juwan has almost no leadership skills; he's more of a silent follower rather than one to take control and fire his team up at timeouts. The real candidate for our leader is more likely to be Mcgrady or Charlie Ward.

I can't see McGrady as a leader, not right now at least. Charlie Ward, especially under a JVG system would be a great leader.

Defining who the leader is on the team is all prospective depending on your definition of a leader. If you consider the leader to be your best player/(go-to player in the clutch) than Tracy McGrady is our leader. If you define your leader as the person who the entire team is built around than Yao would be our leader. If you define the leader position as one who controls the flow of the game than Charlie Ward would be our leader. If you define leader as someone who is willing to do anything for the team than Jim Jackson would be your choice.

To me when I define leader I think of the individual who exerts himself both on and off the court as a role model for the team and the person who can motivate everyone around them to suceed. Its not the best player necessarily. Honestly, no one so far has stepped up and been the leader for this team. So if anyone right now, I would consider our leader to be none other than our coach, Jeff Van Gundy.
