Struggles? My goodness.Explain to me why the rockets led the leaue in least points in the paint last season? I can already predict you're answer 'Yao's 7-6, he's long arms scare everyone off"Please
But swift wasn't on the team last team. But Juwan was, so he is the reason why they lead the league in that department.

Number add validity to an argument- they quantify assertions made from watching the games (and I have watched ALOT of Yao).He is anything but timid- the guy chases like every shot including the lost causes (which does result in posters- seen on SportsCenter- making posters like you think he is timid on defense).
If Yao isn't a good help defender ask Dirk. Yao and Mutombo was the reason Dirk struggled against the Rockets.
No Dirk struggled finishing at the basket because of the length of Mutombo and Yao. Having Mcgrady on Dirk forced him to go inside and that is where he met Yao on help defense.
Yao being tall has nothing to do with him playing good defense. I've seen him sometimes just stanmd there with his hands up, not moving when someone was trying to finish on him.
Yes, he used to take charges on little guys, and fouls would get called on him. he fixed that this year. Again, he is a very good defender, and a lot of it is because his height/length.
I wouldn't say Yao is a great defender but definitely better than average but his offense has seemed to really pick up. He was bound to start dominating since he has the size and speed to do it along with good shooting. He also has improved his strength enough.
Yes...And he will continue to improve his strength. If Yao Ming can beat the Spurs by himself...I will consider him the best and a good leader.
What does being tall have to do with playing good defense. If he was the height of say Camby then he wouldn't be nearly as good of a defender.

If LeBron was as tall as Dwyane Wade, he wouldn't be as good either. If Shaq was Charles Barkley's size, he wouldn't be near as good. But the fact is Yao IS 7'6", so his height and length alone scare people into bad shots or force them to pass out.
Centers need to be tall unless they got incredible athletic ability like Ben Wallace. You want your center to be somewhere from 6'11 and up. It makes teams hesitate when they realize all you have to be is where they are and your length will bother them. This is what Yao does. He probably doesn't even have to jump to bother people.

That is just being tall.
It has everything to do with playing good, and smart, defense. He barely has to jump to block shots, his tall and large frame keep people out of the paint and make people think twice when they do, and his presence alone makes the Rockets defense so much better.
No not at all. So if a 8 foot guy just stood there and didnt even move only turned the direction of the offensive player and effected his shot it would be playing good defense? That doesn't make sense at all...
