i agree... but i wana see what he can do on "our" team... heh maybe the people that double yao come of other guys cuz they basically only have to guard yao and yi...
Yeah of course, but many of us haven't seen much of him, and these games are kind of a sneak peak as to what we can expect out of him when he joins us. I dont think they really pick and choose who doubles off onto Yao as I think it would depend on the situation and who was nearest obviously; either way I think were all just looking for something out of him to give us hope for the future.
Yi looks like a student player,he got 0 points, when i watched the game,i found yi need improve so many skills。 i think Dirk will teach Yi what‘s is the basketball....
Yi is just in a really bad slump at the moment. It's too easy to make excuses for him. His effort on the court has been pathetic and that to me is a real worry. Of course we all hoping he'll turn into a star but with his attitude I am becoming less and less convince he can get there. I've said it before, it's ok to have bad games. Kobe has bad games, Lebron and even Jordan. However one thing they don't do is quit TRYING and COMPETING. I am going to the Olympics and will be there for CNT games against the US and Germany. If Yi gives the same efforts as he did against Australia, he'll be hearing it from me in the stands that's for sure.
Yi has the tools and evidently the skill set to be a solid NBA player, perhaps even a special one if he develops right. However, potential and athleticism don't necessarily translate into a succesfull player. If your head isnt in the game and you don't have the mindset to work hard to improve you won't get anywhere. Just look at guys like Swift and Darius Miles: players who have all the potential and athleticism in the world yet it simply is only half of the puzzle. Yi will do nothing substantial in the NBA or anywhere else for that matter unless he begins to play with heart and work hard to improve all aspects of his game. I think the publicity he gets from the Chinese media and fans may have gotten to his head, because as far as Im concerned he has accomplished nothing in basketball. I hope we can help him get to that next level and put him in a situation where he can succeed, but if he performs like this and does not put the effort and heart into the game I see a tough road ahead that will leave many of us disappointed,

He does have potential. However the Nets will need a strong minded head coach who will push him HARD, get on his case about playing hard and competing hard every night. Also what's Vince Carter's leadership and work ethic like? It wouldn't hurt if a veteran player like him show Yi what it takes to be a star in the NBA. Kinda like how Moses Malone took Charles Barkley under his wings in Philly.
I wouldn't read too much into this performance. Don't forget, both Yao and Yi are coming off of injuries; I'm pretty sure that the CNT coaches and staff are aware of this and aren't pushing them too hard. It'll be a different story once the real deal starts.
Exactly. I understand that the Chinese people have a lot of support for players like Yi and Yao, however, I think his stardom in his home country has gotten to his head to some degree and I think he has a lot to prove. I know a lot of people don't like Frank, but if he doesnt play hard and decides to take plays off, he will be on the bench regardless of how Yi feels about it (I know last year he wanted to be guaranteed 25+ mins a game on the Bucks before he would sign with them). -Can anyone else see a situation where Yi makes an all-star ballot and is voted in as a starter by the Asian supporters oversees who have made Yao Ming the leading online vote-getter year in and year out since he has been in the league?
Fans are upset because historically Yi has put up much better stats. I can only hope it's because they're trying to mold their game around Yao and sacrificing everything else. I really want to hear what the Chinese press are saying about this. It's strange for a player to regress like this.
It would obviously be ludicrous for us to evaluate him based on two Olympic tune-up games, but the way he performed last season as the year went on combined with these early showings are cause for concern, not necessarily because of the lackluster box scores but because of the observations of going through the motions and playing uninspired basketball.

As for the people in mainland China, they conducted a poll last year on one of the Chinese basketball website, and more than 75% of people said they wouldn't vote for him. That was during the stretch where he put up 29/10, 22/7 etc. So I think most people are waiting for him do something in the NBA before voting him onto the AS team. If anything I think Asian fans in the US will be more incline to vote for him judging by the heated discussions that I had with some fans on other forums last season. BTW Yao Ming actually receive more votes from people attending the games then online. The year he beat Shaq to the WCF starting center position Shaq actually had more online votes. One thing is for certain, if Vince Carter has a good year he'll definitely get voted into the AS game for sure. He is still hugely popular there.

Anyway the basketball tickets are like a lottery. When the tickets went on sale the draw wasn't enough made yet, so nobody had an idea who would be playing where. I basically just bought the night session tickets. Team USA feature in this session for all their group games while China feature twice. Not a bad result.
Yeah that was complete speculation on my part, due to his popularity I assumed he would have gotten consideration over better players if such a situation were to arise. That's very interesting regarding the poll outcome that you mentioned, I think thats encouraging that his performance still will dictate whether or not he will be chosen despite how strongly many people will be pulling for his success. I just found it to be an interesting scenario.. Yeah I could see Vince getting a lot of votes similar to the way that McGrady's jersey has been topping sales lists over there (or at least it was at one point from what I read).

The NBA is using Lebron as their advertising campaign focus, not Yao. Anyway, the CNT was embarrassed today. We can blame fatigue, or the coach. That team is just messed up. LOL, maybe Wang ZhiZhi was smart when he abandoned the CNT one summer to train for the NBA. Too bad it didn't give him any better results... just sad.
Kind of off topic but say the Olympics werent taking place this year. Would Yi have played summer league ball for us or would he have had obligations to the Chinese team (assuming it's not a FIBA year as well, of course)..
