George Hill would be good. but he pulled an Oden (self portrait) a few years back I believe so we can't touch him w/ a 10 foot pole.
A contest to make a lucky fan the new point guard would be an upgrade over Felton. Okay, not really, but Felton has been terrible. Quite a few "decent" point guards would be large upgrades. I'd much, much rather have Sessions than Felton.
Augustin or Sessions. Augustin is the better scorer, Sessions is the better passer. Either would could be had for a reasonable price I believe as the Cats are going to let him go due to Kemba Walker's emergence. Sessions is Irving's backup.
Sergio or Luke would both be huge upgrades over Felton, and the kind of distributors and playmakers this team needs. All it would take is a phone call, and a coach with a completely different idea of who is supposed to run the offense.
Was just in Indy where George Hill is currently playing and went to school. Everyone I talked to loves him there as a possible PGotF, moreso than Collison. His picture is plastered all over on bus stops around the city. I don't see them letting him go in RFA unless someone makes a big offer, and I think we should look into him if we can't get any other proven player.
The Nets appear to have 3 point guards better than any on our roster. Compare Williams to Farmar & Gaines. Their win shares/48 are all pretty much the same. Williams' PER is 2 points higher than the other two, but his usage rate is also 7 points higher. Not that I'm saying that either of the other two are actually on Williams' level overall, but the drop-off for the Nets when he leaves may not be as big as is presumed--if they stay. Gaines is an RFA this summer, and Farmar has a player option. Either could be available.
I'm fine with a Blake type point guard. One that doesn't make a lot of mistakes, can hit the open j and is smart enough to run an offense. I wish we could find a Greg Anthony type. Always a fan of that type of player.
This is what I've been preaching- we have options, and good ones, that don't include trading Batum. Granted, these players aren't top tier, but they'll a hell of a lot better than Failton and we should be able to get one of them without it being very painful. But we have to be careful not to get a SG (Bayless, Mo Williams...) and try and make them into a PG. It's an all to often failed experiment.
Hill went to IUPUI didn't he? Anyways, LOL at trying to make Hill the PGOTF. I'm sure a guy that averages 2.5 assists per 36 will do great in that role. He's not even a combo guard. He's a mini-SG in every sense of the word. I seriously hope we don't make a run at him...
I like Gaines. He could be an Avery Johnson type - bounced around, sticking because of "hustle and scrap" and deserves a chance. But the chances of him being better than Felton are slim. Session looks like he would be better, but he puts up solid numbers yet teams never hold on to him or ask much for him, so I have to wonder if there's something we don't know. He doesn't seem to produce much in the way of wins, either. In theory Farmar should be good. He had a monster game or two in the Euroleague. But he's tainted by Lakerism and he seems to be a bit too much of a gunner. It's funny: I took away your restriction of 15 PER minimum, and Devin Harris's name popped up (he's at 14.8). How are the mighty fallen.
Agreed, grass is always greener on the other side. Especially as long as Nate contiunes on with the same offense. While Felton has sucked, he ceiling is just as high as most those guys.
The NBA trade deadline is coming March 15 and the 10-24 Toronto Raptors, who have the fourth-worst record in the league, have already had a "multitude of offers" for point guard Jose Calderon and guard Leandro Barbosa. However, the team has said no to everything so far, according to the Toronto Sun. The paper also notes that "Raptors president/general manager Bryan Colangelo has said in the past that he is interested in extended Barbosa, who will be unrestricted this season."
