It's been a while since I spent time in an Oregon beach town, but I remember enjoying my time in Bandon and Reedsport as well as Neskowin and the usual north of the state beaches.

I do not miss how cold the beach there is.

Brookings always intrigued me — the weird banana belt weather and the zone-9 palm trees.

Cannon Beach is hard to beat though.

Why are Oregon beaches so cold when the Japanese Current flows off our coast? Answer - Because there is an upwell of water from deep in the ocean that brings cold water from the deep right up to the Oregon and Washington coasts.

Great watermelons although I had no idea that they grew in the ocean.

Growing up my grandparents had a membership to Thousand Trails so we spent at least a week every summer with them just north of Pacific City. Really like that town and have some great memories there. Glad to see it's grown up just a little but not out of control with people either. I have some college friends that have camped out at Cape Lookout for the last 20 years every summer and I love that spot just south of Tillamook. It's away from everyone and has a pretty big beach. I still enjoy Seaside though it's only every few years now that I've moved to Texas. I still have a soft spot for LC as my other grandmother lived there for a few years and we would spend a good chunk of time with her but even 30 years ago the traffic sucked and driving through there a couple of years ago I can see it's only gotten worse. Never spent any time south of Newport but am dying for a trip to Bandon. Even though (or maybe because) I'm in South Texas now, the Oregon Coast is in my top 5 of favorite places to visit, it's one of my true happy spots in life.

Wife's aunt has a cabin in Cape Meares--you want a relatively isolated beach, that'll fit the bill.

I enjoy camping in Bandon, and their little "Old Town" area is great.

Brookings is the next Bend, Oregon — population boom and development boom.

it would have been interesting to be just about anywhere on the Oregon coast in 1936. I'll bet driving there was a lot more adventure than it is today

Brookings is too far from big cities to ever become Bend. It’ll never be a weekend destination for any big city

The crowds will flock there from the busy metropolis of Cave Junction.

I think Lanny might be 4 or 5 years older, but I remember going to the coast on camping trips in 1959-60. It sure was different back then. There were fewer people at the coast in summer than there are in the winter now

We’re in Oceanside, Oregon right now and the weather is perfect. Neat little town. 10 years ago I would’ve wanted something with more action. But it’s so nice and quiet here and there’s not all the tourism that goes with other beach towns.

We got a an old black lab whose health is failing so we figured we’d do a beach trip dedicated to her. So she’s been living the life.
