Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis) Super Mario Bros. (NES) Goldeneye 007 (N64) God of War II (PS2) Starcraft (PC) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (X360) Guitar Hero 2 (PS2/X360) Pokemon series (Gameboy/DS) WWF No Mercy! (N64) Need I say more about my top pick? I find it difficult to argue against Ocarina of Time being the greatest game ever. It had everything. The action was great. The world was enormous. The dungeons were brilliant. The puzzles were equally as brilliant. The game, in general, was huge and amazing. There are very few games that I've put as much time in to. If I had an N64 still, I could very easily go back and play the game, nearly a decade late now. That's how you know when the game is amazing. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 comes in 2nd. I played the life out of this game when I was younger, and still go and play it today. I played the game so much that I was to the point where I could beat it in around the half an hour mark. The last time I went through and played, I hardly died. To say the least, the game was beyond addicting to me and I still love, no matter how old the game gets and how much games change Rounding out my top five is the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES, Goldeneye, and God of War 2. SMB was another game I grew up playing. I've loved it since I was a kid. Goldeneye was the game that introduced me to FPSs, and it remains as the greatest FPS of all time in my eyes still. Finishing off was God of War 2, which is easily the best action game ever. The boss battles were amazing and the action was practically non-stop. Throw in a great story and genius puzzles, and you have what is easily one of the best games ever. Finishing off my top 10 begins with Starcraft. The only RTS games that can stand pat with this are the Command and Conquer games, but this is the one that really defines the genre...at least until Starcraft 2 comes out next year. Elder Scrolls IV is quite easily the best RPG ever. The game is enormous and the amount of things you can do and see is astonishing. It is truly a masterpiece. Guitar Hero 2 is a huge addiction to me. I've put too many hours to count in it and I still love it, no matter how much I play. The Pokemon series is just plain and simple an addiction. I got into the games when I was young and still get enjoyment out of them. This is actually the only series that I've put more hours into one game than Zelda. I easily put over 100hrs into the first two games of the series, beating each of them numerous times, and now have put over 50hrs into the recent ones released on the DS. And rounding it all out is WWF No Mercy!, easily the best wrestler ever. It was the first wrestler to really get everything right. The controls were a breeze to learn but difficult to master. The depth in the game was amazing. In general, it paved the way for all the great wrestling games out there.
Wow how could I forget Street Fighter. That was like the first game I played on my Sega. I also remember pw'ing people at that game in the Arcades. Good memories.
Ahh, Silent Hill. Thanks for reminding me of that I-Miss-MJ. That was seriously the scariest video game experience I've ever been apart of. It was seriously like being in one of the classic horror movies that were produced in the 60's/70's. I still remember going into that abandoned school and getting freaked out of my mind when those demon kids that knaw at your kneecaps came out. Or when the demented nurse with a knife appeared at the hospital. None of them were scary in terms of the actual gameplay, because you could kill them fairly easily, but the whole thing was just disturbing (playing in total darkness probably helped). And, I'd pwn anyone in any of the Street Fighter games or MvC2 back in the day. I think I've become rusty over time though.
In somewhat the right order: Planescape: Torment Fallout 2 Fallout Baldurs Gate II Icewind Dale Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines Icewind Dale II Age of Empires II Baldurs Gate Half-Life (Single Player) Honorable mentions: Need for speed: Hot Persuit 2 Arcanum NBA Live 2003, 2004
Great topic. It's hard to list them all; I know I'm forgetting some but here it goes: NBA 2K1 (Dream Cast) Super Smash Bros. (N64) Sonic the Hedgehog 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles (Genesis) Street Fighter/Marvel vs. Capcom (Genesis) Tekken (PS1) Crash Bandicoot (PS1) Pokemon (GBC) Super Mario (GB) Metal Gear Solid (PS1) NBA 2K3 (PS2) - my first game for PS2 and really got me into following more basketball.

It wasn't necessarily a "scary" game, but the mood of it was just creepy. You also never knew when someone was going to pop around the corner and just beat the crap out of you. To say the least, there were quite a few things in the game that were jump worthy.

Me and some cousins rented it and I was the only one playing it after a couple days because everyone else was grossed out/creeped out by it. That one was disturbing too, but in a more blatant way as opposed to the subtle creepiness of the Silent Hill series. The pig boss and the gang with smilie faces on were messed up. Can't wait for the sequel. Duckhunt should get an honourable mention, just because of how far ahead of its time it was.
I loved Manhunt, that game had great presentation and a nice overall feel to it. It also made me laugh so much with those Smilies, "Doglegs!" Then you have one of them in a dress mouthing off to himself about being the wife in the family and killing the husband. Also to those of you who haven't noticed yet, most GoldenEye fans aren't Halo fans.

It's just so depressing that the sequel got pushed back because of the ESRB wanting to give it a AO+ rating. And also, I love Goldeneye, but I do like Halo. I like what it's done for FPS games and I do things it's good, but it's not Goldeneye. In my opinion, Goldeneye revolutionized how we play an FPS, and that's why it trumps Halo. Plus, the solo campaign was way better in Goldeneye. Halo, it just feels like you're doing the same thing constantly. Don't get me wrong though, it's still a good game, but for what 007 did for the genre, it's always going to get the nod for me as best FPS of all time, and that probably will not change.
GE is my favorite game of all-time, period. That will likely never change either. When I won that tourny I was so stoked. Helped for college funds.

I'm just pointing out that it is possible to like both GE and Halo. On a sidenote, ever since releasing Perfect Dark, I think Rare forgot how to make FPS games. Perfect Dark Zero was just horrific.
Yeah PDZ was pretty bad, but it wasn't Rare that made GoldenEye what it is, it was the staff that David Doak had with him. Some of them left after GoldenEye and then eventually created TimeSplitters with their own development team. Hence why that series is so damn good. When Perfect Dark was finished the rest of the better staff left Rare to join the new team to help on TimeSplitters 2 and that was basically it for Rare. That's why Nintendo sold them to Microsoft.

By far the most entertaining shooter series on the market. Plus, it's the only one where you can actually play multiplayer maps with bots, which is awesome. In general, great games, and generally highly entertaining story modes too, something very difficult to find in todays FPS.
I'm not enough of a gamer to list ten games, but these 2 were very addictive for me: Super Smash Bros (N64, NOT the gamecube one) Tetris Attack (SNES) I spent way too much time playing those games in college.

I re-created almost every stage from GoldenEye 007 into TS Future Perfect. It is something you have to see to believe. You should also look up GoldenEye Source the mod for Half-Life 2. It doesn't have the charm of GoldenEye, but the re-created stages are sick. As for TimeSplitters, I'm surprised you left that entirely off of your top ten. I figured the new one or TS2 would've made the cut since you're such a big fan.

So, while I do love the game and the series, there's just so many other great games that I've played, it was hard to really shake a top 10 out, but I think I got mine right.
