Man getting Igs and Williams?! That would be an epic move. The back court would be soooooooo solid. I wonder if that could happen?

Starting line-up of: PG: Williams, SG: Igs, SF: Batum, PF: Aldridge, Center: Hickson is way deadly. Then the trade for Matthews would free up more time for E Will. Babbitt can play SF/PF. Pryzbilla: Back-up Center (5-10 minutes), Thomas: Back-up PF/C (5-10 minutes). Craig Smith: Back-up PF (5-10 minutes). Flynn or Smith as the back-up point. That would be a solid team!

No, that wouldn't be possible. With both Batum's & Hickson's cap holds, we don't have enough cap room to offer a max deal. We could have that lineup with Dragic, possibly, but not Deron.

What do you mean? We don't need cap space to do the Igs trade. I thought we have 18 mil free; even with the cap holds on Hickson, the picks and Batum. And if we do the Igs deal during draft night; then we won't have the cap hold on one of the picks. It maybe a good idea to do the Igs deal first, because it could entice Williams to come. It may take Matthews, Nolan Smith and the best first rounder to get it done though.

But we need cap space to sign Deron, which is what you were asking about. We won't be able to offer a max deal to Deron if we keep Hickson. The 18M figure was before we picked up Hickson.

I am really bad at CBA stuff, but wouldn't we be able to keep Hickson and Batum if we signed Williams first? Don't we hold their Bird rights? Not that I want to sign Williams anymore

Sure, but their bird-rights generate cap holds, of 5.4M for Batum and 5.8M for Hickson. Retaining those rights reduces our available cap space.

This blog gives a good break down on the salary.

    Draft pick cap holds are:

So you are correct. We would have to renounce JJ Hickson to offer a max contract to Deron Williams. Maybe Dragic is a better answer?

I was looking at the trade machine and we would need Our first rounder, Babbitt, Nolan Smith and Matthews for Igs.

Yeah if there is an opportunity to get Igs, keep Hickson and Sign Dragic; then it's better than Williams and a released Hickson.

There is the possibility of doing a sign-and-trade with the Nets for Williams, in the unlikely event that he decides really wants to play here. If it looks like he's going to leave them high and dry, the Nets would probably be open to some sort of a trade that gave them some value back for Williams. Who knows, there could even be some sort of a handshake agreement that the Nets get their 1st round pick back from the Blazers along with a player or two to make the numbers work. The salaries wouldn't have to match exactly, since the Blazers would be under the cap.

At present, sure. After July 1st, we'll have cap space, so we could make a Matthews+pick for Iggy deal straight up.

Crap--didn't realize he was at $14M! for some reason, I thought he was only 11. That deal would eat up half our space. :sigh:

Yeah but usually when picks are traded; they are usually done on draft night. That way the team getting the pick can either pick the player they want, or trade it for another player.

If you offer a "Front loaded" contract to Dragic; I think it gets done. Maybe 11 mil 1st, 9 mil second, 8 mil third and 8 mil 4th as a (player option) = 4 years 36 mil.

The more I think about the possibility of getting a wing like Igs; while being able to still offer a player like Dragic money seems like a great deal. We would still have the opportunity to keep Hickson; whom I believe can be an answer at starting PF. I truly believe Aldridge can play center; while Hickson plays PF.

A starting core of Dragic, Batum, Igs, Hickson and Aldridge has offense at every position. Batum, Aldridge and Igs are all defensive guys.
