In a battle of aging 2nd tier junior middleweights, 33-year-old southpaw Yudel Jhonson (16-1, 9 KO’s) defeated 33-year-old Norberto Gonzalez (20-4, 13 KI’s) by a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision last Friday night at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York, USA. The final judges’ scores were 97-91, 97-91 and 97-91. With the victory, Johnson captured the vacant WBC FECARBOX light middleweight title. Jhonson knocked Gonzalez down with a straight left hand to the head in the 5th. In the 9th, Jhonson knocked Gonzalez down with another left to the head. As good as the win was for Jhonson, it really wasn’t a big deal because he wasn’t facing a top contender at 154. It’s easy to look good when you’re not in with someone that has the skills to compete.
