Though the next in line to challenge Anderson Silva for his title will be fellow Brazilian Thales Leites, Japanese wrestler Yushin Okami will be getting a title shot at whoever is champion afterwards.

Okami is the last fighter to defeat Silva. In January, 2006, Okami and Silva faced-off at Rumble on the Rock 8. After a couple of minutes of back-and-forth action Okami landed in Silva's guard. Silva up-kicked a kneeling Okami in the jaw, stunning him and sending him onto his back in a daze. The referee immediately stopped the action and held back Silva, who tried to throw the ref out of his way and continue his assault. The blow was deemed illegal as kicks to the head of a grounded opponent are against the rules and when Okami was unable to continue, Silva was disqualified.

Since that loss Silva has gone on a rampage winning nine straight fights and becoming one of the top pound-for-pound fighters on the planet. All nine fights have been stoppages, six by knockout.

Okami is 9-2 since the bout with wins over Mike Swick, Jason MacDonald, the late Evan Tanner, and recently Dean Lister. Okami has only one stoppage loss in his career having been TKO'd by Amar Suloev in 2003.
