Before we get too excited about the 50-40-90 club, Meyers also had similar stats. NOT saying they're the same or that Zach will pull a Meyers, but it doesn't necessarily equate future earnings.

Yeah, but Meyers 50/40/90 season was on pretty limited attempts. He didn't come close to actually qualifying for an official 50/40/90 season. For example, he only shot 32 FTs that entire season. Zach Collins, a 20-year old rookie who didn't even crack the rotation until January has already shot more FTs (33) than Meyers did that entire season.

With Zach's defense and aggressive nature, he should have no problem getting the minutes the attempts necessary to qualify for an official 50/40/980 season in the future. The question, of course, is can he shoot that well over an extended period. Right now, he's taking people by surprise. That won't last. People (other players, the media) are already stating to notice you can't leave the rookie wide open at the 3-point line.

Sample size. To officially qualify for the 50/40/90 season you need to MAKE at least 300 FG, 82 3FG and 125 FT. During Meyers 50/40/90 season he made 125 FG, 47 3FG and 30 FT. So, he was only about 1/3 of the way there.

Of course, Collins had early season shooting woes and didn't crack the regular rotation until January. So, he won't come close to 50/40/90 this season, but going forward, he shouldn't have any problem qualifying. That will be the easy part. Actually shooting that well over an entire season is the hard part.

I'm on board the Zach Hype Train; he's fearless in a way Meyers never was or will ever be. He's a game day player. Big Baller Brand, as Nurk would say. I just chuckle when people bring up 50/40/90 because, well... sample size.

Yep, but like I said, a 7-foot defensive stud that can shoot 45/35/80 is still a pretty rare thing. I think prime Marc Gasol is the only one we've ever seen (I don't think KAT qualifies as a defensive stud), and he only did it one time. 50/40/90 may be a pipe dream, but I could see Collins getting to 45/35/80.

I almost said that would be like Kwame Brown and Michael Jordan in WAS, but @HCP is more goat than GOAT.

Just fallacy to even suggest this. It's like asking Congress to change citizens United.

They're not gonna renegotiate out of guaranteed money.

He is quite the opposite of a hulking lumbering giant however... while I understand why the suggestion was made... it is not it.

Too bad he's not Mormon. He could be the Stormin' Mormon from Bishop Gorman.

Evidently, he already has a nickname and it's Z-bo.

    And Z-bo?

“I’m going to be honest, I have no idea why it’s Z-bo,” Gonzaga freshman center Zach Collins said. “I think it just sounds better than Z-co, has a little better ring to it, a fun vibe to it.”

and if Meyers was in the same stratosphere as ZCo defensively, we would have made it to the second round last year. Unfortunately, Meyers is a non-NBA player because of his lack of defensive awareness. Not really fair to put the two in the same sentence, actually.
