I figured since I dont get in on the crazy trash talk like some in here.. that I'd at least get in on the trash talk thread by starting it lol
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: No Smack here. I'm just hoping for a good clean game. Winner gets the Rose Bowl... Loser gets probably the Las Vegas bowl or the Sun bowl. I dare say it might be the biggest game ever (not just civil war) in the history of both schools.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: agreed.. although wouldnt the Ducks still be in 2nd if they lose since they beat the only other teams with 3 conference losses? The worst the Ducks end up with is 2 conf losses.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: +1 as to the smack. I don't really think of it as the biggest game ever for either team, though. I actually think the 2K Fiesta Bowl for the Beavs was bigger as were some games in the "early years". I don't really think the Beavs have everything quite in place to win it this year, maybe that's why I'm not amped this time. Loser could get anything from Las Vegas to Holiday to Sun to Emerald depending upon who loses. Beavs could go from Roses to Emerald. That's a pretty big disparity over one game and just shows how much parity is in the Pac-10 this year.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: damn ducks would be top 5 if not for that joke at stanford.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: i dont have much smack to talk either. i think they keys to the game are canfield, and lamichael james...if one of those players dont show up, then the opposite team will win...if that made sense....
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: maybe I'm just retarded.. but how could the Ducks get worse than the Holiday Bowl? And dont worry guys in here.. you guys arent the Trash Talkers I would expect to frequent this thread
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: I didn't realize Stanford lost this week. So I think you are right. This means of course that the State of Oregon should root for the Beavs so they can go to the Rose Bowl and Oregon can go to the Holiday Bowl.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: It the Ducks lose they will go to the Holiday Bowl. If the Beavs lose they will go to the Vegas Bowl. GO BEAVS!!!
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: I want a tie game going into the final 2 minutes and my Ducks to win. I have a bet with one Mr Greg Oden that my Ducks will beat his lame ass Buckeyes!
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: Don't they try to avoid having repeat teams in bowl games? The Ducks went to the Holiday Bowl last year.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: I believe that is with the lower tier bowls. I could be wrong though. Edit: Holiday Bowl had Texas 2 years in a row in 2000 and 01 against the Ducks and then against UW the next year. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls08/news/story?page=holiday_history
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: IIRC, all of the bowls have a no-repeat clause. Hence why the Beavs could drop all the way to the Emerald bowl rather than the Sun Bowl.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: any Idea when that went into effect? I thought the same thing last year but I was told I was wrong.. anyone have a definite answer? I'm trying to Google.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: Best thing I can find is on Wikipedia The game currently features the 2nd place Pac-10 team and the 3rd place Big 12 team. The game has recently become a type of "upset" bowl. For the past three years, teams rejected by the BCS have lost to heavy underdogs. In 2005, a 10–1 Oregon team (favored by 3 points while ranked 6th in the nation) playing without its star quarterback Kellen Clemens lost 17–14 to a surging Oklahoma squad that had won six out of its last seven. In 2004, one-loss California was blown out by Big 12 Texas Tech, 45–31. In 2003, Big 12 third-place Texas was knocked off by Pac-10 second-place Washington State, led by Matt Kegel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holiday_Bowl
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: Also one of the espn bowl projections for the Holiday Bowl has USC vs OK St.. so I'm guessing the no repeat thing doesnt apply here.
Re: Official 2009 Civil War Trash Talk Thread: agreed. The Vegas Bowl does nothing for me. At least with the Emerald Bowl and Sun Bowl you are exposed to a recruiting hotbed for talent. I would venture to guess that The Sun Bowl for both schools had something to do with Quizz and James, and LaMichael noticing their schools of choice.
