Portland trades Robin Lopez to Houston for Jeremy Lin and pick #25.

Houston needs to trim salary for Lebron and it is likely that they will need to give up a pick for a team to pay Lin that 15 million balloon payment.

Lopez's contract is not guaranteed so they could simply cut him.

Portland could then resign Lopez with the MLE pays him about the same as he was to make last year. They could offer him player options so he can still become a free agent.

Thoughts

Lopez's contract is now guaranteed. Doesn't work.

Why would we want to help Houston get Lebron? Lin isn't worth that.

One there is no guarantee that Lebron signs with Houston, two we add Lin and the #25 pick in the draft for our MLE. That is unless tester is correct and Lopez contract is now guaranteed, something I have not been able to find one way or another.

Once again, I invite you to read at www.cbafaq.com before posting ideas like this.

Per answer #64 -

When a team trades a player who is subsequently waived by the receiving team, it cannot claim the player off waivers or re-sign the player until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract4, whichever is earlier5.

Besides, we had to give up something for Lopez last year and his value had to increase. No way he makes it thru waivers with all of the teams that have cap space. He will also command a contract greater than the MLE.

Trade for Lin? Great idea!

-Nobody that watched the 1st round

We'll do this right after we deal Lillard to Memphis for Conley.

You posted this Blazers-Rockets idea in another thread. At least it was buried there. Starting a new thread on this is just... UGH.

<facepalm>

so we could have conley AND lin?

holyfuckingshit

the #1 prospect is a pg next year, our backcourt would be STACKED YO

I am just glad we were able to trade our starting center for a backup PG that the rest of the league thought so little of Houston had to include a pick in order for anyone to take his contract.

Seriously. There's reasons people don't post trade ideas, because they know it's stupid. Then there's you.

That rule only applies if Houston were to waive him. My plan suggested that they decline his team option for this season. If they waived Lopez they would have a 5.5 million cap hit and the whole deal would be worthless on their behalf.

Irrelevant, because his contract is now guaranteed.

So your telling me that getting Lin and the #25 pick in this draft for nothing but having to spend our MLE on Lopez is a bad deal. You guys are ridiculous, I added a better backup PG and got us a pick in the draft and somehow that is bad. I guess maybe some of you don't read to the end or did not understand that after the trade we have Lin, pick #25 and Lopez.

Way to show your reading ability we traded our starting center and then resigned him right after the trade. Plus the only reason Houston would have any trouble finding a taker for Lin is his balloon payment.

As long as we are in imaginationland, we should also install an adamantium skeleton inside Greg Oden and sign him to a 100 year contract

The team option would have to be picked up in order for him to be traded.

The only thing unrealistic about that trade would be Lopez's contract status if his contract is guaranteed then Houston has no reason to make the deal. You would also want to make sure Lopez was for sure willing to accept the MLE.

Really??? Come on, at least don't completely destroy your own argument in the first post of a thread you created.

Easy Kahn. I am not the one trying to circumvent the CBA.

Yes, that's true. Sadly, it destroys your entire idea that you thought was brilliant enough to deserve its own thread.

Ask Cleveland how making sure a player would accept the MLE before setting them free works. Better yet, count the millions Boozer made in Utah.

The last year of Lopez's contract was guaranteed BEFORE the blazers even traded for him. Olshey said so during his end of season interview. cmeese47's idea is impossible. My prediction is that cmeese47 will continue defending his trade idea anyway, just for fun!!!

Wouldn't it be easier to just teach Lopez how to be a point guard and then use the MLE to sign a center?

Just the underlying idea of getting something for nothing.
