I can’t remember, but have we ever talked about this possibility?

What do you guys think? Too tough for me to answer

I lean towards not retiring his jersey...he just wasn't here long enough nor did he get us deep into the playoffs...plus he retired a Timberwolf after 2 partial seasons there trying to get a last check or two....and he's not been involved with the Blazers at all via media since and I believe only attended one game since retiring here....to me if he's not fond enough to support the franchise then why should the franchise show him that kind of love? He was a great player for a short time.

Hard to argue with any of that

I don't think it was going to happen under Paul Allen's watch, but if the team sells, maybe... He should be acknowledged in some way.

Nope. I wouldn't retire Sabas, Pippen, or Sheed either.

We have one title. Those guys should be up there. Then Dame and Drexler. Everyone else, meh...

Agreed. Loved him as a player. Hated the drama with him and Z-Bo/Andre Miller.

He did not play long enough for us. If we retire him we need to retire Lamarcus. And I don't know that we should retire Lamacrus.

actually the beef with Andre Miller..(one of my favorite players ever) led to us getting Raymond Felton and shipping Dre out of Portland...we haven't had a lob passer since then

Ya. And the rumor we agreed to not take Kenneth Faried at our pick before Denver took him. We ended up with Nolan Smith who was awful instead. And Felton. Faried and Miller were so much better. I loved Miller too.

I used to think Aldridge could be our leading scorer of Roy, Oden and Aldridge. But my goodness. I don't know that anyone thought he would by far end up having the best career.
Yeah, Oden was supposed to be IT. Roy would help make him unguardable, and Aldridge clean up everything else.

And they could all rebound and play tough D.

If healthy and with a better coach that group should have gotten 4+ rings...

Batum, Rudy, Steve Blake, Przybilla, Sergio....... So much promise.

I remember a sideline interview with Nic Batum after a game where he was in a suit and Crabbe was starting for him...he actually said when asked about Alan Crabbe...."y'know, he really reminds me of Brandon Roy".......it was then and there that I realized Nic didn't have great observational skills.

I think retiring jerseys should be very exclusive. Like, era-defining star exclusive. If I were in charge, I'd probably only have Walton's, Drexler's and, eventually, Lillard's jerseys retired. No one else's. Pippen (my favorite player of all-time) wasn't a superstar in Portland, Roy didn't last long enough, Aldridge wasn't really era-defining--either for the NBA or even for the Blazers. I think Roy and then Lillard were more defining for the stretches of Blazers success that Aldridge was around for.

Now, if the Blazers established a Ring of Honor or a team Hall of Fame, I'd put more players into that. Roy for sure. Aldridge for sure. Sheed for sure. Maybe Pippen. All the core players from the championship team. Terry Porter. That kind of thing.

Bayless too! I loved Bayless and thought he would be a star. He actually carved out a decent little career. I feel like his best year was on the Raptors or something.

I liked Bayless as a prospect a lot too. I used to argue that Bayless being a scoring guard playing point guard was fine, because they had sufficient play-making from Roy and Batum.

Bayless, Roy, Batum, Aldridge, Oden. I thought that team was going to be a dynasty. Outlaw and Rudy as valuable reserves.

I would think Sabonis should be in the ring of honor too.

I want that feeling again. Probably why i'm inclined to tear it down and take our chances. I've never felt stronger about a team than that team.
