I know bayless is going to get most of the love tonight but to me it was webster doing all the little things that he hasn't done for most of the season. he started the game by going to the hoop and getting some nice lay-ups and ended it with big rebounds and a huge tip in of a missed free throw. hopefully this is a sign of things to come from martell!

Agreed. I was going to hop in here to post the same thing. Roy and Bayless were fantastic, but we still don't win this game without Webster in the 4th. The 3, the tip, the rebound, and don't forget the swat on Amare. He was everywhere.

Loved his energy. Hate his inconsistency, but he was a big help tonight.

Webster may be a streaky shooter and inconsistent in all areas of his game, but I love his constant effort and enthusiasm.

That block on Amare was a HUGE play at that particular juncture of the game. Huge.

I'm really hoping that the early season inconsistency is due to the fact that he played a total of 5 minutes during the regular season last year but I doubt it. I've said this several times, as long as he plays solid D (which he has been doing) and rebounds...He is a great role player for this team. When his shot is falling, he needs to be playing 30+ mpg. When he gathers himself and squares up that shot is lethal...I still think he has the ability to pull it all together and be a great role player.

Amen. This was a breakout game for Martell in terms of what he is capable of doing with his athleticism. We need him for much more than outside shooting.

I want Webster to play like he did tonight so badly....if only it happened more often.

I think we will start seeing this more often from Martell. The injuries have actually clarified roles for now, and he's someone who can really only thrive in a setting where his role is comfortable and steady. And I always forget what a great athlete he is...

I guess the cynical view is that more of us are surprised by Webster being good, than by Bayless looking like a stud.

Ha ha ha ha I am telling you this all started when I posted that I thought he was not NBA level talent. He is just doing this to prove me wrong!:tsktsk:

Not a bad game. But really outbalanced by all the terrible ones he's had.
When this becomes the norm, and he improves his shot, then, he will be playing well.
Until then he's playing fairly well for a guy drafted late first, early second round.
For a 6th pick?, not so much.

the bad news is....

we wont see martell play like this till xmas day again

It has to be mental because he has shown us enough of the physical tool like he did tonight. If he can just find that consistency he will be a big asset to this team.

We need consistency. We need players like Webster and Bayless to do what we expect him to do all season. Until these players can muster up many games with the same type of play is when everyone will embrace them. Too many times we get a tease of these players playing to their potential, only to have them completely be a none factor for the next 3-4 games. I want consistency as a fan. That's why we love Roy, Pryzbilla and Aldridge. They will do what they do each and every night. We need the role players to do the same.

We don't have to ask for much. Just enough to qualify them as an answer at their position.

Martell was making a lot of plays for you guys last night. His help defense on Amare put the Suns offense on pause, he had the key rebound off the missed free throw, he hit a corner 3 pointer after missing one the prior possession and he had a circus shot layup. Nice all around effort by him last night.

I want nothing but success for Webster. I still think he has one of the best forms in the game and is built like a bulldozer that can drive and handle like a porsche. He just needs to keep doing what he's doing. Don't over step. Don't think too much. Be a nice defensive force, get under the skin of the other team's SF with position fighting and occasionally hit the outside shot.

Keep it up!

Ya, that was the turning point for him in this game. He kept missing outside, but once he went inside he got on track.
Do you see how many people are talking about his inconsistency? That's why I can't stand him, plus he still is not that deadly shooter management thought he was going to be.

My heart wants every Blazer to do well, but I try not to let my wants factor into a player evaluation. The odds are long that a player is about to hit a gusher of untapped talent after 4-5 years in the league performing at basically the same level.

11.9 PER this year 11.2 for his career... those numbers echo the less then mediocre play I've watched. His D is okay at best. He does have a great smile though, seems grounded and somewhat intelligent. His body looks like he was built to play hoops, he hustles, and he's got textbook form on the J. Unfortunately it just hasn't translated thus far.

Every 6 games or so he has a decent game and his fan club goes into a tizzy that he's having a breakout moment. Fun times...

Maybe playing only 5 mins last year has something to do with that? Plus a lot of times he doesn't get credit for a lot of stuff he does. Some only see if his shot isn't dropping. But sure he can be more consistent.
